There was a huge statue of the former president, Leon Cortes when I stopped by La Sabana Park.  You could see that he influenced the country by the most evolutional activity.

I realized after I saw many statues of great people at remains that great people who left their name on history became world renowned after they passed away not during the time they lived.  I learned that there is no meaning on doing cheap tricks, but need to be something that my name will be remembers forever if I decide to serve others.

I thought that Mr. Leon mentioned that Golfito was a great place and need to take route 239 to get there.  However several maps showed that taking route 2 is the best National Highway to go over mountain.

But later on, I realized that it was a big mistake…

On the route 2, it got colder and colder as I got close to the valley.   It was too cold!!  The temperature was 10 Celsius!   And the altitude was way over 3000 meter.

There were several off limit areas.

When I went to the head of the traffic,
I noticed that there was under reconstruction of a mudslide.

On the hillside wrapped around the long mountain road, there were few mudslide areas, and it was 3000 meter sheer cliff.

And it had been raining since this morning today.
IMGP0019

Especially on the high altitude area, there was deep fog.  The worst visibility is 10 meter, and further than that is zero visibility.

The beat of the rain quickened as I crossed over the mountain, just like a squall.  A squall usually a sudden and over a short time interval, however this one lasted over 10 kilometers.

I remembered that Mr. Leon mentioned that the rain season in Costa Rica is troublesome, and it’s normal to last 24 hours.  We talked about season in Japan as he asked me about when is the winter and summer in Japan.  He said that there is only 2 seasons in Costa Rica; dry and rain season.

I felt grateful for 4 seasons in Japan.

My average speed was low because of rain on the mountain road.  It got dark again in still 100 kilometer away from the destination.

Finally, it became pitch dark.  On top of that, there was heavy rain.

It was very frighten driving in heavy rain in a tropical rain forest without street lights.  The head light of an oncoming car reflected diffusely on my wet shield, and it was zero visibility.  On top of that I needed to pay caution on the deep and big holes on the bad condition road because of mudslide.

There was no other choices but I lifted my shield, and kept driving while the heavy rain hitting my face.

I remembered Africa when the rain came into my mouth.

I drank rain and kept going in the Congo when I ran out of water.

I arrived in hotel area in Golfito at last.  It suppose be the resort area that Mr. Leon praised highly.

I couldn’t see anything because it was dark…  I was tired so decided to rest and leave early to go to Panama with ocean view.
