ついに今日は５６カ国目のパナマへ入国します。
Finally, I entered the 56th country, Panama.
ゴルフィート湾は、太平洋から入り込んでいるドゥルセ湾の中にあります。
残念ながら、サンフランシスコのゴールデンゲートブリッジ以来の太平洋の大海原を望むことは出来なかったけど、やっぱり海はいいね☆
大好きです。
The Gulf of Golfito is in the center of Golf Dulce, which is like a labyrinth from the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, I was not able to see the vast Pacific Ocean view that I saw from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. I like watching ocean. I love it.
港の突端にバイクを進め、撮影をしていると地元の人がぞろぞろ集まってきた。
皆、気さくに話しかけてくれる。
The local people started to gather around me as I parked my bike at the edge of the port. They started to take pictures. They were all friendly.
そんな中、一人の男性と話しをしていると、その男性の背後から私にジェスチャーでメッセージを送ってくる人がいる。
While I was talking to a man in the crowd, there was another behind him. He was making hand gestures, trying to send me some kind of message.
「こいつ、ドロボーだから気をつけろ。目を離すな。」だって。(笑)
“He’s a thief. Be careful”
こんな田舎でもいろんな人がいるってことだね。
I was surprised to find out that there were even any thieves in such local areas.
傍にいた子供が、ぬいぐるみを持っていると思ったらホンモノだった。
There was a boy next to me. I thought he was carrying a stuffed animal at first, but then I found out that it was a real dog.
コスタリカの子犬！可愛い。

国境へ到着。
コスタリカ側でガイドがイミグレーションと税関の場所を教えてくれる。
手続きはとても簡単なのでもちろんタダ。
I arrived at the border line. A Costa Rican guide showed me the “Immigration and Custom” area. The process was simple, and, of course, it was free.
パナマ側へ向かおうとすると、私を呼び止める。
「あっち（パナマ入国）はとっても面倒で大変だから、ガイドが必要だと思うけど、どう？」
確かにそのようであることは事前情報で知っていたので、ガイド料を聞いてみると、逆に、いくらくれる？と聞いて来る。
As I headed to Panama, he called me to stop. “The process in Panama is very complicated. Do you need a guide?” I knew that it was going to be more difficult in Panama than it was in Costa Rica. I asked him the price. Instead, he asked me how much I wanted to pay.
山「５ドル（３８５円）だ」
“Five dollars,” I said. (This is 385 yen.)
ガ「ダメ１０ドルならやる」
“No! I will do it for ten dollars!” the guide said.
山「じゃあ、要らない」
“Then no thank you,” I said.
と言ってバイクに乗って発進しようとすると、慌てて、再度寄って来て、
I got onto my bike and started the engine. He hurried to run towards me.
ガ「８ドル！」
“Eight dollars!” the guide said.
山「ノー」
“No.”
ガ「７ドル」
“Seven dollars!”
山「ノー、５ドルだ」
“No! How about five dollars?”
ガ「もう、判った、それでいいよ」
Finally, the guide gave in. “Alright, I’ll do it for five.”
いやいや、実際、助かった。
かなり複雑かつ、国境係員の皆さんの作業がゆっくりで、さらに時差の為、パナマ側は正午になっており、昼食を摂っていたりしていて作業が進行されていない窓口も。
お陰で多くの人が待たされている。
To tell you the truth, he helped an awful lot. It was a very complicated process, just as he said, and the employees at the border were so slow. On top of that, it was already noon because of the time change. Because of the time, some windows were closed for the employees’ lunch time. There were many people waiting.
そこをこのガイドのハミルトンは、小気味良く作業を進めていく。
よっぽどの顔らしく、場所によっては彼が書類にスタンプを押している。(笑)
My guide, Hamilton, handled the procedure smoothly. Hamilton was known by many people at the border. He actually stamped on some of the paperwork! (Haha XD)
お陰でかなり短時間で終えることが出来た。
相当、良い動きをしたにも関わらず最後に余分にお金をねだることなく潔く、いい奴だった。
I was able to finish all of the process very quickly because of him. Even if he did a great job, he didn’t ask me for more money. He was a very nice guy.
さて、バイクに戻り出発しようとすると、
I walked toward my bike to start my journey.
なんだ！？
バイクの下のほうが濡れているぞ！
What!? There was wet spot underneath my bike!
あっ！！
Oh no!!
・・こ、この犬！！
That dog!!
やりやがったなーっ！！
He did it!!
パナマの犬っ！ こいつは可愛くない！！

I’m just kidding.

It was just disinfectant (Hahaha).
犬は偶然、近くにいただけ。・・だよな？
The dog just happened to be there… I think…
ということで、無事、パナマへ入りました。
Anyway, I entered Panama safely.
「Hello!! Panama! Good-bye, CostaRica!!」
噂どおり、パナマは道が良い☆
The road in Panama was well paved, just as it was reputed to be.
カナダから繋がっているパンアメリカンハイウェイだ。
This is the Pan-American Highway. It’s connected to Canada.
この調子なら、明日予定してしたサンチアゴに宿泊しないで、一気にパナマシティへ向かうことが出来そうだ。
If I continue to drive smoothly, I might not need to stay in Santiago, and might be able to go straight to Panama City.
宿にチェックインし荷物を下ろした後、遅いランチのため町へ出る。
外観はファミレス、中身はフードコート、という不思議な感じの店を発見。
I headed to the town for a late lunch after I checked in at the hotel. I found this strange restaurant. It looked to be a family-owned restaurant from the outside, but it was food court on the inside.
チキン＆ライス＆ダイエットコークのセットを注文。
I ordered chicken, rice, and diet coke.
これで、$2.9（２２０円）
ちなみにパナマは自国通貨がなくUSドルが流通しています。
The meal was $2.90 (220 yen). By the way, Panama doesn’t have its own currency, so the US dollar is what is circulated.
食事も少しづつ内容が変化しています。
中米まんなかあたりから食事に食用バナナが付くのは当たり前に。
ライスは豆と一緒に炊かれたものが主流です。
トルティーヤはついに姿を消しました。
The meal style was changing gradually. Around central South America, it is common that a banana comes with the meal. Rice and beans are usually cooked together. No more tortilla!
食後、近くのカフェに移動しフリーWi-Fiで、各方面と連絡をとる。
子供インタビューの段取り、南米に渡る手続き、宿の予約、等々。
I moved to the cafeteria after the meal. It had free Wi-Fi. I made contact with several people to make arrangements for the child interviews, the process of entering South America, and booking a hotel etc.
そんなことをしている時、カフェのアンちゃんが親しげに話しかけて来る。
いつも、新しい国に入ったばかりの時は不安が一杯。
出国の時は、もっと居たかったと名残惜しくなる。
A person in the cafeteria started talking to me in a friendly matter while I was on Wi-Fi.
Every time I entered a new country, I become very nervous. However, when I leave a country, I feel a little sad and want to stay longer.
だけど、新しい国で仲良く話す人が出来るとすぐにその国が大好きになる。
Then again, I fall in love with the country when I start to meet new people.
旅っていいよな。
I love journey.
犬もいいけど、人間っていいよな。
I like dogs, but I like humans, too.
いよいよ明日、アメリカ大陸を南北に分けるパナマ運河を渡り、パナマシティに到着したら、北(中)米大陸完走です！
カウントダウンしながら走ります。
Finally, after I crossed the Panama Canal, which separated the South and North American continent, I arrive at Panama City. I will reach my goal to ride through the North and Central American continent. While driving, I’m going to be counting down.
