The morning I leave Panama a beautiful morning sun is visible from my room window.

I was luck to get to see such a beautiful landscape on my last day .

I leave the briefly used guide book “How to travel the world: Central & South America” on the table when I leave the room. Thanks much! You've been really helpful ;)

Arrival at Panama Tocumen International airport.

It's not exactly a large airport, but it's new, pretty and clean.

I check in at the Avianca counter and verifying my departure gate, the ticket says '22A'
However, on the screen there is a different flight number than the one I'm supposed to fly on ...
When I ask the person whether I'm at the right place, showing the ticket, he just answers 'here is OK'.

When I check for the second time, he repeats his words: “It's here”. He adds that boarding hadn't started yet.

Then I thought that the monitor at the gate may be broken, and – just to make sure - went to have a look at a different monitor. Sure enough, that monitor shows gate '23A' with my flight number: AV59
Proceeding hence to gate 23A the boarding monitor shows my flight number. And: boarding had starting.

Good idea to double check ...

I nearly missed boarding!

This indeed is a journey with a lot of lessons to be learned!

Avianca airlines, whose name I hadn't heard once before booking the ticket.

It's good think that this is a new plane from the European Airbus conglomerate ...

I'm sure that somewhere on this plane my bike has find a place

The doors close on time and the plane heads to the runway.

And then: a rather violent take off!

Normally I don't think much during take off, but this time the thoughts that crossed my mind were: 'Opps, with such a sudden acceleration,
won't the bike down in the loading bay fall over and be damaged.

What about taking off a little bit more softly!

What about taking off a little bit more softly!

I got all emotional about the colour of the sky above the Caribbean sea.

It's of an impressive intense deep blue shade!

Suddenly, we reach the Panama-Columbian border high up in the skies.
10)

Down on the ground, it's closed as it has become quite a problematic place.

Oh, and looking very closely, there's hide out of the guerillas!
52)

Just joking, couldn't really see anything.

After just over an hour, we reach Colombia's El Dorado airport.

When I get off the plan, it's cold!
Well, yes, indeed!
It's because Colombia's capital Bogota is located at 2500m over sea level at high altitudes.

Getting on board of the car that came to meet me at the airport, I notice the drug sniffer dogs that are being lead around the car park checking out all the cars.

Well, after all Colombia is the heavens of the drug trade.
And suddenly I get a suspicious feeling.

Anyhow. I wasn't able to get my bike out of the airport today, and hence have to return to the airport tomorrow to pick it up.

Arrival at the hotel.

I barely have barely but my luggage down and caught my breath, when I hear a noise from outside my room window

Zaaaaaaa

It's the sound of strong rain.
Just as I was thinking 'Aha, right, here too, it's raining' , it rattles and then a loud Bang!

A thunder storm.

Okay, the translation is that from Colombia onwards, we're be getting thunderstorms as well.

Precisely what I was hoping for ...

… NOT!

Not really.

Of course it's good weather.

Please, weather gods, let it be good weather.

For now, I take a tour around the area of the hotel.

Since this place is at a few kilometres distance from down-town, the area isn't really noisy, but the main road is busy with traffic.

Tomorrow, I'll have to go and retrieve the bike from the airport.

And since the landing was equally violent as the start, I'm quite concerned of the state the bike
might be in.

Please, make that it survived the ordeal without any problems ...
