I'm really happy!!!
Most recently, I've managed to surpass the 60% milestone of my donation goal to Second Harvest Japan!

I haven't checked back for a while. But, always, I get some much courage myself by Yamada-san's challenge. This is just a small contribution.
I'm looking forward to be able and talk to you in person after your return to Japan.

I'm very aware that I only reached to 60% mark of the target donation amount thanks to everyone's support.
I am deeply, deeply grateful for that.
I continue to drive with the wish to spread the word and get support to help Japan recover.

[Chile] – Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales

January 21st, 2012 (Saturday)

Distance:250キロ
Departure:10:30am
Arrival:14:00pm
Weather:Cloudy
Temperature:11℃

時間が遅いせいかAbierto(開店)が少ない。

Yesterday night when I arrived at the accommodation, it was already late, and so I went immediately for dinner after
leaving the luggage in my room.
But as I arrive at the sushi bar which according to the guide book as a good reputation, it is already closed.
It's probably really late, so there aren't many places that are still Abierta (open).
With a strong, cold wind blowing, I walk around town looking for somewhere to eat. And by chance, the restaurant I finally enter does have sushi!
Since this is a port city, it has got the full range of sea food dishes, and sushi is probably just one more of those.
The sushi I'm served are salmon, scallops, crab claws. The neta was OK, but the rice was awful.
Actually it's a waste, but I didn't touch the rice and left it behind.
Real Japanese is indeed a rather complicated issue.

Today I'm off to a small city with a somewhat similar name as this one.

The 'Magellan' which I pass close by as I leave the city.

The road from Punta Arenas.

The road leads along the Strait of Magellan, which means it's icy cold!

A little bit further on, and I'll be getting into a real Fjord.

This wasn't really big, or was it ;)

That's a characteristic of
the Americas – the transport of entirely finished structures.
I do understand of course, that it is cheaper that build it on site where it is needed, but there is also a risk factor involved ...

This Southern region of Chile produced wool for the whole world, and hence there are a lot of grazing sheep around.

As the wind is too strong, there aren't many sheep standing, but rather their crawling around :D
They are grazing while moving forward in a crawling manner.

There are a lot of totally white Guanacos around here!

Arrival in Puerto Natales.

I can see the Torres del Paine National Park in the distance, some 100 kilometres ahead.
The Torres del Paine is a place where at over 3000 m over sea level there is snow year round, and there are numerous glacier lakes.

The city is with 20'000 inhabitants rather small, yet there are a lot of tourists walking around in the street where the shops are lined up one next to the other.
And since this is the base to go into the Torres del Paine, I get to see a lot of backpackers, trekkers, and hikers.
Apparently this is a famous place among people who like mountain climbing and hiking.

As far as I'm concerned, I content myself in the Paines tomorrow
with my bike.

Hmm, will I be able to get to one of the glacier lakes at all?
