[Chile] Chillian ~ Santiago

January 31st, Tuesday, 2012

Travel Distance: 416km
Departure: 820am
Arrival: 1230pm
Weather: Clear
Temperature: 28c

When I was leaving Chillian, I remembered this incident at the gas station yesterday.

This boy came to me at gas pump.
He was touching my motorcycle with a smile on his face.

"How old are you?"

"Eight"

"What's your name?"

"Antonio"

After that, this gentleman at the gas station was showing the map on my motorcycle to Antonio, and explained that I am making a world touring on my motorcycle and I am going to Australia after this, then going back to Japan.

When I was leaving the gas station, I tried to shake hands with Antonio. His grip was strong and his eyes were sparkling.

I remembered myself fascinated by those incredible people who were living dream life. I read books about them and watched TV shows about them. But also meeting with them made my memory stay in my heart deeply.

You need to have a dream to drive yourself going after fascinating YOU in the future.

Through our communication today, I would be glad if I did help Antonio have his dream even a little.

I am headed all the way to Santiago!

It has been a great day since the weather is nice!
I noticed that there is no wind blowing here.
Yesterday we had so much rain that almost caused flood, so I didn't realize it, but I went over South latitude 40 degrees, and I am through Patagonia region.

What was that deadly wind about? Over here it's fresh to feel the ordinal wind on the road.
Gas mileage improved so much also without the deadly wind.

The sign to Santiago motivates me to be closer.
2

I see tall buildings in the capital city in Chile!
3

There are 3 lanes and is much more traffic.

I am arriving in Santiago finally!

I remembered the day when I got in to South America.
It was in the middle of November, and with some concerns I was entering Bogota(Columbia) from Panama City.

I thought about the car dealer and mechanics In Central America who fixed the mechanical problems, and Imaizumi-san, Oscal, Joshua who helped me with the interviews, and Mr.and Mrs. Tsukada that I met in Uyuni.
I also wonder how Mr. Gibs is doing who didn't even know me but still gave me donations in Lima.
I was blessed with many kind people in South America also.

The riders from all over the world are probably on their way right now.

At the exit on Highway. This is my victory pose!!!!

Whoo hoo! Finally I made the goal in South America!!

I went to "Hotel Nippon" to stay for a week, then went to lunch. After unloading, I went to BMW dealer shop.

In this town, there is a big car company that is dominating car business. They had a motorcycle service division.
5

Motorcycle shops are located in a high-end neighborhood.
Including Argentina, in Chile not only BMW riders but also big motorcycle riders are more likely to be respected.
I wonder if that is because motorcycles are mostly for wealthy people here.

I felt big relief as soon as I parked my motorcycle in the shop parking lot.
This "Hero" tried very hard to get us this far.

I am sending my motorcycle to Australia by air, so I am going to hand it over to a contractor in the morning on 2/5 Sunday.

That's why I brought the motorcycle here for maintenance today, and I want to get it back by Thursday just in case.

I told my request to Claudio who is taking care of my motorcycle, also speaks English.

[Maintenance orders]
90,000km check up, changing tires, fixing broken parts, replacing necessary parts, modifying pania case, welding crack on stay, replacing head pipe bearing, replacing front wheel bearing, improving overheat prevention, and etc.

"It's impossible to do all that in 2 days! Too many orders!" Claudio screamed!

"I understand. How about by Friday?"
It should be no problem if he can fix all of them perfectly, then I can still have a test drive on Saturday.

I am glad that I tried hard to come to Santiago by today.

I went back to hotel by taxi, and headed to a close Japanese restaurant "Japon." that I was looking forward to
I chose this hotel to go to the restaurant everyday!

は?!
WHAT??
6

"We are closed until 2/20"
OMG!!!!

I was looking forward to it more than sightseeing here in Santiago. How disappointing!  :(

I looked for other Japanese restaurants. There is one called "Kintaro" about 2km away from here.
Although I have to walk since I have no vehicle now, I will for some Japanese food!

Today is a special day! I want to celebrate my achievement in  South America!

I was alone but I ordered a beer!

I am toasting to myself for completion of 4 continent journey!

Everything looks good on the menu but my favorite ones are these.
8

Ramen noodles and Gyoza.

Gyoza here is good!
But ramen noodles are not so...it maybe difficult to cook authentic ramen noodles.

I have many bumps on my palms from blisters.
My fingers are as stiff as I need to massage them daily.

That's how hard the Patagonia wind was. It made me grab the handle so hard.

My back is about to be done from falls and continuous ride.

But I don't want to complain because I have decided to finish this 5 continents, 100,000km journey within 15 months.

I am leaving Santiago on flight QF322 at 1120pm on 2/8 Wednesday.
I am arriving in Sydney in the early morning on 2/10 Friday.

During the stay in Santiago for a week, I am going to prepare for the final part of my journey.

Also I am excited about where to do the interview in Chile, the last place in South America. :)
