事務作業が一段落したところで昼時から海岸へ出かけます。
この辺りはジョギング、サーフィン、買い物客達で活気に溢れています。
そう言えば、ハワイのワイキキに似ているなー。

【オーストラリア】シドニー滞在４ in Sydney 4２０１２年３月２４日（土）

事務作業が一段落したところで昼時から海岸へ出かけます。
As soon as I'm done with office work, around lunch time, I go out and to the sea side.
ここはシドニー中心から車で４０分くらいのフレッシュウォーターというエリア。
土曜ということもあり多くの人が訪れている。
もう秋になるというのに気温がぐんぐん上がり、ハトも噴水で行水しとります。

This place is called 'Fresh water' and is some 40 minutes by car from Sidney's centre.
土曜ということもあり多くの人が訪れている。
It's Saturday, so there is quite a bit of folk.
対岸は観光名所のマンレー。

On the opposite shore there's the famous site seeing spot of Manly.
ここには純粋に遊びに来ている人もいれば、魚貝を取りに来ている人も。
実は、ウニ、サザエ、牡蠣がほぼ取り放題！
モリを持って素潜りで魚を狙うことも可能で、行き会った男性達は「魚３匹とイカ一匹が今日の収穫だぜ！」と満足気。
毎日、シーフードでいいなら無職でも喰っていけるなあ、真面目に思う(笑)

People come here not only for mere leisure, but also for seafood such as fish and shells.
Essentially, it's 'all you can carry' for sea urchins, turban shells and oysters.
It's entirely legal to go hunting for fish with a harpoon, and I indeed met a group of guys who were evidently satisfied with their catch: 3 fish and 1 quid.

Off to Manly, a place I really wanted to visit.

This place was founded in 1788 when the first English fleet landed.
It's mainly a commuter town and resort area, and many tourists come over from the city on ferry.

The church that it built right in the middle of the main street.
One can see these type of modern designed buildings a lot all over Sidney.
And even though it is already autumn over hear, the temperatures still raise steadily, and even the pigeons take a dip at the fountain.
この辺りはジョギング、サーフィン、買い物客達で活気に溢れています。

This place is bubbling with energy from joggers, surfers and people on a shopping spree.
In that sense, it resembles Waikiki on Hawaii ...

Water sport areas are scattered all over the coast. Sidney really is enviable.

音楽家＆音楽療法士のイズミさんちには沢山の楽器があり、みんなで歌を唄ったり演奏したり。
日付が変わったことも気付かないほど盛り上がり、トールさん宅へ戻った頃にはもう丑三つ時近い。

Izumi-san is a musician and music therapist, and there are a lot of different musical instruments at her place. And everyone together we are having an impromptu sing and jam session.
日付が変わったことも気付かないほど盛り上がり、トールさん宅へ戻った頃にはもう丑三つ時近い。
We were having such a good time that we didn't notice the date change, and it was sometime around midnight when we arrived back to Toru-san's house.
「南十字星をみたいんです」
と伝えると、
「今、やりましょう！」
とこんな時間にも関わらずトールさんが機材を出してくれる。

And as I say “I would like to see the Southern Cross”,
と伝えると、
「今、やりましょう！」

he says “Let's do that then right now!” and without hesitation he gets the equipment out despite the late hour.

On the Northern Hemisphere, only from Okinawa it is possible to see it somewhat, but it is here that one can see it in full beauty. And somehow I'm touched by it.

In the days, during the Age of Discovery, they calculated their position on the Southern Hemisphere with the help of this star.

In my case, I've only managed to get to see it after I reached this journey's goal, with no opportunity any more to loose my way.
走り出してからずっと思っていたが、GPSもインターネットもない時代の旅人はどれだけの苦労をして道なき道を開拓していったかと思うと私がやってきたことは無に等しいほどになる。
その分、これからの人生、日本に帰ってから私の行動が大切だとしみじみ考える。

Ever since I started by journey over a year ago, I couldn't help thinking that in a time and age without GPS and internet, how tough it must have been travel, make and find ways. What I managed to do completely pales in comparison.
その分、これからの人生、日本に帰ってから私の行動が大切だとしみじみ考える。
It was in that minute that it occurred to me that I have to seriously think about my life and my activities after my return to Japan.
