[Peru] Chivayo - Puno

Today I'm going into the Colca Valley in order to see Condors.

… but then I screwed up.

I overslept. Overslept!

When I awoke it was 5.50am.

In reality, I wanted to get an hour earlier, but made a mistake when setting the alarm clock.

After a precipitous breakfast, I hurriedly checked out and head off!

And the bad roads start.

This tunnel was scary.

I was so pitch dark, that I thought for a moment whether I had my eyes closed

After about an hour's drive from Chivay, I finally arrive!

This is the Cruz del Condor (Condor's Cross) view point.

Already a whole lot of people have gathered to see the Condors.

I arrived precisely at 8am.

As I walk towards the viewing platform, I ask those who are walking into the opposite direction whether they have managed to see a Condor. And all of them answer, that yes, they'd managed to see them. This seems to be an OK location, hence.

From a strategically good location, with a superb view, I enjoy the sights while playing 'find the Condor'.

The 'Cañón del Colca' is said to be deeper than even the Grand Canyon in the US.

In the far distance depth I can see the Colca river.

Thanks to the grate weather, the views are just marvellous!

Looking up into the deep blue sky, the moon is crisp and clearly visible.

It's half moon.

The moon that you currently can see from Japan, is it also a half moon?

For a while, I'm looking out for Condors, but can't see any.

But when I started looking with the binoculars I had brought from Japan, a bird suddenly enters the visual field of my lense!

Ohhhhh!!!

It's a Condor!

Saw it, saw it!

But I understood that it must be flying at a fair distance, as the people surrounding me, apparently couldn't see it with their bare eyes, and hence no one made any noise at all.

Apparently at this place, when the crowds can spot a Condor, they cheers.

And even the condor that I got to see with the help of the binoculars eventually disappeared behind a mountain.

I only saw it for maybe 5 seconds.

Result: At this place, I'll only get to see them at this kind of distance.

Well, indeed it seems I should have come an hour earlier.

This is a rather bitter mistake I made.

I was asked for souvenir photo by one of the South American children's groups.

It took forever. And in the end, the kids wanted to have 2 pictures.

Whether it was because of the motor bike standing in the parking lot, or because Japanese are really rare around here, I've got no idea.

This said, the kids are cute, aren't they!

I changed place.

Here too, I waited for about an hour and a half, but yet now a single Condor showed up.

But even without getting so see and Condors, I completely forgot the time. The views are just so amazing, they leave me breathless over and again.

And the air is clean and nice!

And then it's time to leave. And just as I bend over the bike to head off, a guide of a tourist group that arrived after me, shouts.

'Condor, Condor!'

It was only for an moment, but I managed to see a Condor from afar.

The only thing is, that I sadly wasn't able to take any picture of it. But that can't be helped.

But then again, the landscape in this place is just so, so beautiful.

The terraced fields, typical for Peru.

Right to here it is a piece of art.

I wear of the main road, and take a break to eat.

I eat my bread sitting on the ground, looking from a distance at the 6000m high mountains and a flock of Alpacas.

On the way back to Puno, I see an elderly lady selling souvenirs just off the main road.

There must be something of interest to see.

This is a lake located at over 4000m over sea level.

Looking closer, I can see white birds.

Ohhhh!

It's a herd of flamingos!

There are so many of them, it's impossible to even try and count.

But I actually wanted to see Condors, isn't it.

After about 400 kilometres driving, I arrived at the outskirts of Puno.

And it's precisely where I thought to pass by: the Chulpa de Sillustani.

It's in fact a group of tomb stones that rise into the sky as you approach Lago Umayo.

A stone monument grave, built in Inca times.

It's some 14 meters high.

It's slowly getting dark, hence I only look at it from afar and leave it at that.

This village, in the immediate vicinity of the ruins, is rather interesting.

These are houses that are build only from stones and adobe, a type of brick made from sun-dried mud.

Indigenous people were living in these houses, and around each of the houses there were invariably a number of Alpacas or Llamas.

Well, today was my last day in Peru!!

Tomorrow, I'll cross over into Bolivia!

今日はコンドルを見るためにコルカ渓谷へ向かいます。
・・が、やってしまいました！
寝坊です。寝坊。
目が覚めると５：５０。
予定では、もう一時間早く起きるつもりがアラームの掛け方をミス。

慌てて朝食、チェックインを済ませて出発！

悪路が始まります。

このトンネル怖かった。
目をつぶっているのかと思うほど真っ暗です。

チバイから１時間走って、ついに到着！
Cruz del Condor（コンドル展望台）です。

すでに多くの人がコンドルを見るために集まっています。

私が到着したのは８時ちょうど。
展望台に向かう途中、すれ違う人にコンドルを見れた？と聞くと、聞く人全員、見れたと。
これは、大丈夫そうだな。

見晴らしが良さそうな場所に陣取りコンドルを探しつつ、景色を楽しみます。
USAのグランドキャニオンより深い渓谷と言われているカニョン・デル・コルカ

遠く下のほうにコルカ川が見える。

天気がよく絶景！

深い青空を見上げると月が奇麗に出ています。

半月です。
日本から見える月も、今日は半月ですか？

しばらく、コンドルを探すが見えない。

日本から持って来た自慢の双眼鏡で探していると、

レンズの中に、鳥が飛び込んできた！

おおっ！！

コンドルだ！

いた、いた！

しかし結構、遠くを飛んでいることが判るのは、周囲にいる人は肉眼では見つけることが出来ないらしく、誰も騒がない。

通常、この場所でコンドルが見えると、歓声が湧くらしい。

双眼鏡を通して私の目に映るコンドルもすぐに、山影に消えていった。
私が見れていた時間、僅か５秒くらい。

結果、ここではそれっきり。

うーん、やはり、もう一時間早めに来るべきだった。
手痛い失敗をしてしまったものだ。

南米の子供グループから記念撮影を依頼される。

延々と子供がツーショットを撮りたがる。

駐車場に置いてあるバイクを見てのことか、純粋に日本人が珍しいのか。

それにしても子供は可愛いね！

場所を変えました。

ここでも１時間半ほど待つが全く現れず・・。
でもコンドルは見えずとも、時を完全に忘れ、ため息が何度も出るほど景色は素晴らしい。
そして空気が美味しい！

出発しなければならない時間になったのでバイクを跨がろうとした時、後からやってきたツーリストグループのガイドが叫ぶ。
コンドル！コンドル！
一瞬ですが、コンドルが遠くに見ることが出来ました。

ただやはり、一切、写真を撮る事が出来なかったことは残念でしょうがない。

しかし、なんともこのあたりの景色は最高です！

ペルーの特徴、段々畑。
ここまでくると芸術ですな。

幹線道から外れ、食事休憩。

地面に座り、遠くに見える６０００mの山と、アルパカの群れを見ながらパンをかじります。

再びプーノへ向かう途中、道路脇に土産物を売るおばちゃんの姿が見える。
そんな所は観光地になっていることが判る。

標高４０００mを超える場所の湖。
よく見ると、白い鳥らしきものが見える。
おー！

フラミンゴの大群だっ！
おびただしいほどの数。

でも、コンドルを見たかったな。

４００キロ近く走り、プーノの手前まで来ました。
ちょうど、寄りたいと思っていたシユスタニ遺跡があります。

ウマヨ湖（Lago Umayo）に向かってそびえる墳墓群。

インカ時代に作られた石塔の墓。

高さ、１４mあるそうです。
日も暮れて来たので離れた所から見学して終了です。

この遺跡の周囲の村落が面白かった。

石と、アドベと呼ばれる日干しレンガだけで作られた風情がある住居。
アンデスのインディヘナの方が住み、アルパカやリャマが必ず何頭も家の周りにいました。

さて、今日でペルーは最後の日となりました！！
明日は、ボリビアに入ります！

今日はコンドルの聖地、コルカ渓谷へ向います。
I headed to Las Casitas del Colca the holy ground of Condor.

朝、プーノを離れる時に見えたチチカカ湖。
This is Lago Titicaca that I saw when I left Puno this morning.

昨日、到着した時は雨天だったのでよく見えなかったが今日はとても奇麗に。
ちなみに、プーノは標高３８００mで富士山よりも高い所に位置しています。
明日、もう一度このプーノへ戻ってくるのでチチカカ湖の観光はそれから出来れば。
I couldn’t see it when I arrived yesterday because it was cloudy outside. But I was able see it very clearly today. The altitude of Puno is 3,800 meters; it is higher than Mount Fuji. I’m coming back to Puno tomorrow, so I think I’m going to do some sightseeing around Lago Titicaca when I come back.

昨日、通過してきたフリアカを経由し、まずはアレキパ方面へ向かいます。
今日も出だしは天候が良いので走っていて最高の気分です！
雨、降らないでね＝！
I’m going to go to Juliaca, I went through there yesterday, and headed to the Arequipa area. I feel so good driving under blue sky! Please don’t rain!

標高がすぐ４０００mを超え寒くなったので上下、着込むために路肩に停車します。
フリアカからずっと並走する線路があるが全く列車を見ない。
The altitude is now over 4,000 meters and it is getting cold. I parked my bike on the shoulder to put more cloths on and I saw a railroad track along side of the road to Juliaca, but I did not see any train.

不思議な三角州に気付きます。
I realized that there was interesting River delta.

向こう側の川は、右方向へ流れているのに、手前の川は左方向に流れているのです。
これってアリ？　
超常現象？？
The stream seemed as if it was flowing in two directions.
Is this possible? Is this paranormal phenomenon?

暫く走ると、おおっ！
As I continued driving… Oh!

貨物列車だ！
抜きざまに機関士に手を振る。
でも汽笛の反応は無かった・・。
It was a freight train!
I waved my hand as I passed by.
There was no whistle blown…..

もー、走ってて「唸り」ます！！
I started growling as I kept riding!!

この素晴らしすぎる景色はなんだ＝＝＝＝！！！
紺碧の空！　
吸い込まれるような白い雲！
緑緑しい山々！
もう、もう、感動しきりです！！
The view was so incredible!!!
A deep blue sky!
White clouds make me feel like I was getting sucked into them.
Green Mountains!
I was continued moved by ever views!!

標高が４０００mを超えるとアルパカの群れが突然増えます。
希少なビクーニャもたまに見ることが出来ます。
As the altitude increased, alpacas were often seen.
Rare vicuña were seen too.

幸運にも生まれたてのアルパカの赤ちゃん（今度はホンモノ）に出会えました。
ヨチヨチと歩く姿が超、可愛い！
Fortunately, I was able to see a baby alpaca (this time was a real one). The way the baby alpaca walked was so cute!

アルパカの撮影をしていたら、観光客を乗せたワゴン車が停車。
運転手＆ガイドの方が日本語で話しかけてくれたのでしばし談笑。
セルジオさんとおっしゃり富士市の日本企業で働いていたそう。
いろいろ情報を教えて頂き感謝です。
A station wagon with travelers stopped next me when I was taking pictures of alpacas.
The driver and the tour guide started talking to me in Japanese, so I had a pleasant chat with them for while.
His name was Sergio san, and he had experience working at Japanese company in Fuji city.
I received a lot of information from them. Thank you!

さらに上ります！
I continued driving up!

本日の最高です！！
This is today’s highest altitude!!

よんせんはっぴゃくはちじゅうごっ！
５０００mに近い！！！
It is 4,885 meters!
It is almost 5,000!!!
ちょうどこの地点に土産物屋が数件出ており、景観地になっています。
There were some gift shops in this area, a scenic view area.

とても摩訶不思議な風景が広がっています。
A vast mysterious view was in front of me.

よく見ると、
As I looked closely…

このように石を積み上げられた道祖神（旅の安全を祈念した石積み）のようなものが無数に、そして延々と広がっているのです。
これ、人が積んだの？
または自然の力でこうなった？
セルジオさんに会えたら聞いてみよう。
As you can see in the picture, there were rocks piled up all over the places. They are the traveler’s guardian.
Were they made by human?
Or by nature?
I’m going to ask Sergio-san when I see him again.

究極の直線！
The ultimate straight road!

長い下り坂のあとに見えてきたのはチバイの町です。
After the long downward slope, I started to see the town of Chivay.

町を一望出来る崖にインディヘナの方が土産物を広げています。
Some of the local people (Indigenas) have a gift shop at the cliff where they have a panoramic view.

チバイはコルカ渓谷へ入っていく前の実質最後の町です。（標高３６００m）
Chivay is the last town you see before entering Las Casitas del Colca. (The altitude is 3,600 meters)

人口５０００人の小さな町です。
セルジオさんから教えてくれたレストランでランチ。
そして、今日はこの町に宿泊です。
It is a small town, its population is 5,000.
I had a lunch at the restaurant that Sergio san recommended.
And, I’m going to spend a night in this town.

コルカ渓谷にあるコンドルが見れる場所まではチバイから４０キロ。
ダートを走るので時間はおそよ１時間半だそう。
通常、コンドルを見るツアーは早朝あるらしいが午後〜夕方行っても見れるだろうと思い、予約したホテルに荷物だけ下ろして向かおうとすると、ホテルスタッフの女性が、

It is 40 kilometers from Chivay to Las Casitas del Colca where they can see condor.

It might take about one and half hours to get there since I need to drive on the dirt.
Normally, the tour to see condor is in the early morning. However I thought it might be ok to go after noon, so I decided to drop of my luggage at the hotel and headed to Las Casitas del Colca. When I got to the hotel, a hotel staff said

「早朝しか、絶対に見れないません」
“You can’t see it if you don’t go early in the morning”

キッパリ、言い切る。(笑)
She insisted. (lol)

マジか。
頑張って急いで来たのに。
You’ve got to be kidding me.
I tried my best to get here in hurry.

まあ、しょうがないので明日、早めに出て向かおう。
That’s ok. I will leave early tomorrow morning.

普通はアレキパという街の観光もしてからコンドルも見るそうだが、私はコンドル一点集中で来たのでコンドルちゃん、頼むよ＝！
Usually people do sightseeing the town called Arequipa too, but I came to see condors the most. Please condors, let me see you!!

Weather: Sunny, but cloudy later on. Occasional rain and sometimes hail.
Temperature: 4 °C - 15°C
Altitude: 4,300 meters

クスコを出発してプーノに向います。
４日ぶりの走行です。
I left Cusco and headed to Puno.
It’s been four days since I drove last time.

天気も良く、気持ちイイ！
やっぱり南米は最高だな＝！
The weather was great, and made me feel good!
I really love South America!

先日お世話になったガイドのホルヘさんが是非！と言っていたラクチ遺跡へ。
I headed to the remains of Raqchi that the guide, Jorge san who treated me well recommended the other day.

ビラコチャ神を祀ったインカ時代の大神殿。
This is a shrine that held ViracochaInca in Inca civilization.

巨大さに圧倒される！
The size was very overwhelming!

後ろにはつっかえ棒があり、周囲へは入場禁止になっています。
いつ崩落するかわからない危機遺跡となっているようです。
There was a stick supporting the remaining wall of shrine in the back. The area around it was off limits.
These remains can collapse anytime.

住居に使われていたと思われる円形の建物の中へ入る。
I entered the round building that it looked like an old residence.

マチュピチュも良かったが、ここはすごく感じるものがあった。
I liked Machu Picchu, but this place made me think deeply.

遺跡見学を終えて、プーノへ途中、うっかり標識を見落とし道を間違える。
I got lost after I left the remains of Raqchi and also on the way to Puno because I accidentally missed the road sign.

どんどん道の状態は悪くなっていく。
されど南米、侮るべからずだ。
その後、道がない部分の線路を乗り越えながらしてやっと国道へ復帰。
The road conditions got worse.
I cannot make light of the roads in South America.
After I drove over the area where there was no road, only rail road track, I finally went out to the highway.

今日は標高３８００〜４２００mの移動です。
I’m going to transition from the altitude 3,800 to 4,200 meters today.

雪を冠した美しい山々を見ながら走ります。
I drove watching the beautiful mountains with their peaks were covered by snow.

アヤヒリ（Ayaviri）という小さな町で食事休憩。
開いているレストランはここ一軒しかない。
I stopped by the small town that was called Ayaviri for meal.
This was the only restaurant that it was open.

気の良いおじさんが迎えてくれます。
スープと焼きそばとチチャモラーダで７ソル（２１０円）。
味はそこそこ。
The middle aged man greeted me kindly.
I ordered soup, fried noodle, and chichi morada. The total was 7 sol (210 yen).
The flavor was ok.

標高は４３００m。

雨雲が近付いてきたので、路肩に停めてカッパを着る。

カッパは防寒の助けにもなるので丁度良かった。

The altitude is now 4,300 meters.
I saw rain clouds getting closer to me, so decided to park my bike on shoulder and put on a rain coat.

The rain coat is also good for protecting me from the cold.

少し走り出すと、思った通り、雨が降り出す。

それも大粒だ。

雷も鳴り始めた。

As I suspected, it started raining when I drove for while.
It was big drops of rain.
Thunder started, also.

「よかったー、カッパを着ておいて」

“Good thing I put my rain coat on!”

と思っていたら、雨の状態が変わった。
And then the rain changed to something else.

「いてっ！」
“Ouch!”

雨が硬い。
The rain was hard.

雹（ひょう）になった。
It was hail.

気温は４℃。

The temperature was 4 °C at this point.

未舗装路を走る時の雨はツライ。
It was hard to drive on unpaved road especially in rain.

山間部と地面が白くなってきた！
The mountains and the road were covered white stuff!

雪と、ひょうが積もり始めます。
They were covered by snow and hail.

その後、フリアカ（Juliaca）を経由しプーノに到着です。
I arrived in Puno driving through Juliaca.

今日はすっごく寒い移動になりました。
風邪をひかないように早寝します！
It was very cold driving today.
I’m going to go to bed early so I don’t catch a cold!

溜まっていた書類、撮影データー等の荷物を日本へ送るためにDHLへ行く。

I go DHL to send the parcel with all the collected documents, digital picture data etc. to Japan.

前回出したのは韓国からだったんだけど、その時はなんと一日で日本に到着した！
それも普通の国際郵便で。
いかに日本が近いか判った時でした。

Last time I did this was in South Korea, and in that instance it only took a day to arrive in Japan.

And that using normal international postal service.

Well, that was at a time when Japan was still geographically close.

This time around it's gonna be with the giant of international freight DHL.

「６営業日かかりますよ」

“It's gonna take 6 business days”

土日が挟むので実質一週間以上だとか。
いかにペルーが日本から遠い国なのか判った瞬間でした。

This there is a weekend in between, this is hence gonna be taking more than a week.

This is the second I understood that Peru indeed is far away from Japan.

通りに出ると、大規模デモが行われている！

When I stepped back outside, a large scale demonstration was going on.

残念ながら、何を訴えているのか不明でした。
確かにペルーはストライキなどよくやるそうです。

Unfortunately, it didn't became clear what they were demonstrating for or against.

In fact, it seems that strike are fairly common place in Peru.

街の中心、アルマス広場は平日でも人がいっぱい！

And in the centre of town, the Plaza de Armas is brimming full of people despite it being a weekday.

それも観光客が多く、日本人もちらほら見かけます。

And then there are a lot of tourists, and I even could spot the occasional Japanese.

観光ポリスが要所要所で見られ、白バイも沢山出動しています。
The tourism police keeps surveillance at every important place, and a lot of the white motorbikes are moving around.

外国人の私に物売りをしにきた男性をすぐに制止するなど、仕事っぷりはイイ感じです。

Their duty is amongst other to tell peddlars off, such as the guy who who tried to sell me something. In that sense, their work feels good.

クスコ近郊には「インカの聖なる谷」と呼ばれる遺跡群帯があります。
その一つに数えられ、クスコ中心から徒歩で行く事ができる、サクサイワマンへ向います。

At the outskirts of Cuzco are ancient ruins in what is called the 'Sacred Valley of the Incas'.

Apparently there is just one location, however, and it's possibly to walk there from the town centre of Cusco. I hence direct my steps towards Saksaq Waman.

徒歩でしか登ることが出来ない道が街のあちこちに突如、現れます。
コロニアル建築が軒を連ねる世界遺産らしい街並です。

And suddenly there appear streets left, right and centre which are really only possible to climb on foot.

This is how colonial style buildings, with interconnected roofs, worthy of a UNESCO world heritage site look like.

目的地への途中、リャマを連れたアンデスのインディヘナ（先住民）と出会う。
On the way, I met a Indigena accompanied by her Llama.

このリャマは人に慣れていましたが、ヘッドロックしたら嫌がりました。

These Llamas are used to people, but obviously, they it hated to be in a head lock.

サクサイワマンに到着。はー、はー。

Arrival at Saksaq Waman. Ha---, ha---

ここはインカの首都要塞として機能していた所。
This place served at one time as fortification of the Inca capital.

スペイン軍と戦うためにインカ軍２万人が集結した場所としても知られる。
でも「夜は戦わない、種まきの時期になると畑に行ってしまう」インカ軍は「２４時間戦闘態勢」のスペイン軍、わずか２００名に倒されてしまうという寂しい終末を迎えるのです。
インカ軍って・・。

I learned that when the Inca were fighting the Spanish, they assembled as many as 20'000 troops in this place.

But apparently. the Inca army “Did not fight at night time” and “during planting season, they all went off to the fields'. Sadly they in that way lost against the only 200 men strong Spanish regiment ready to fight 24 hours a day under any condition

高い石工技術はまさに目を見張り、堅牢な要塞は建造物的には素晴らしいもの。
And just then I got to see the splendid, strong, solid architectural structures, assembled under the highly developed craftsmanship of stone masons.

こんなにデカイ石をマチュピチュ方面から運び、一日２万人が働き続け、８０年かけて完成したんですって！

I was told that in order to transport these massive stones from Machu Pichu to this place, there were 20'000 men at work every day, and that over the course of 80 years.

ちなみにこの一個の石がどんだけデカイかというと・・

And just to let you know how massive a single stone of these in reality is ….

こんな感じです。

一個の高さ、３m以上ありそう。

That's how big it is.

One is over 3 meters high.

隣の丘に登ると、街全体が見渡せる最高の景色が広がっていました。

Climbing on top of the nearby hill, I could appreciate the whole structure in its entirety, and let the gaze wander across the landscape into the distance.

何のマネ？
And who is this imitating?

恐れ多くも、

キリスト様でした。
His holiness, Mr. Christ, it was of course.

スペインに侵攻された歴史のある国を訪れると、このように街を見渡せる丘に、キリスト像やマリア像が建っています。

Whenever one visits a country that as historically been conquered by Spain, there always is a statue of Christ or Maria set on a hill overlooking the city.

街の何処からでも、見上げれば神様の微笑みに出会えるわけですね。

In this way, no matter where in the city someone raises their eyes, they'd always be able to meet God's smile.

Cusco Day2 / Machu Picchu (Tuesday) 13/December 2011

I left my hotel room in Cusco at 540 am.

I arrived at Proy train station after a 20 minute minivan ride with my tour guide.
It takes over 3 hours by train to Machu Picchu train station (Former Aguascalientes )

What a view!

It’s like “See The World By Train.”

It feels strange to be relaxed and just to be able to enjoy the scenery from the train window. (Because you don’t really relax on a motorcycle ride on the road.)

And guess what?

This train ride is so comfortable.
I noticed that there is a big difference between motorcycle and train to travel even on the same route.
Motorcycle ride is like a battle on the road.

We got to Machu Picchu train station.
It did not feel like we had been on the train for over 3 hours.
By the way, you are not allowed to drive up here by motorcycles or cars.

The government has a policy not to build a road for the purpose of preserving the town and the Inca site.

In front of the train station, there is a market strip selling lots of souvenirs, and there are tour guides waiting for your arrival.

We took another ride to the mountain for 30 minutes by bus.

Over here the road is unpaved.
All the vehicles are transported by train.
Then I wondered, “Is it like ‘How do they put subway trains underground’?”

I made it!

This scenery is exactly like the one in a travel book!

“The city in the clouds!”
In 1500’s, Spanish conquest came to South America for the colonization, and destroyed the Incas that governed the area at the time.
But the Spanish could not find "Lost City of the Incas" because of the location on the mountain ridge, so the site was never destroyed.
You can identify the site from the air only.

How fascinating!

There are religious district, houses, common areas, water channel, astronomical observatory, schools, and etc. You can tell that this place used to function as a city.

It wasn’t an on season (May to September,) but there still were many tourists.

Do you feel the energy?

You see some people trying to get the ancient power of Machu Picchu.

They used to identify Summer solstice and Winter solstice.

I am glad that I have a tour guide, so that I can understand the meanings.

But I also wonder what if I was alone here, how would I feel?

Some sloppy work was done here. The king had passed away while building this area, so construction people got lazy at work.
It makes me laugh and felt good in a way.
The Inca people who are known as perfectionists were just like us.

Remarkable the Incas stone work.

It feels like I can hear the workers saying, “It’s not that hard to create this scenery with big stones.”

Impressive water channel work

This water channel is perfectly well-designed throughout the site.
That helped all kinds of architectures, agriculture, and fishery development, and it was one of the reasons for the Incas to grow big.

Warter is Life

There are 16 places to draw water.

But it is still a mystery why 900 residences abandoned the site.

Lamas that live here at 2400m above sea level. (Approximately 8000 feet)

I heard there are Alpacas here, but the tour guide told me that they live in a cold district over 3000m above sea level. I was glad that my tour guide was very knowledgeable so that I can get the most updated information about Machu Picchu.

The Inca ruins, especially Machu Picchu site, have been updated frequently and some information is different from the one in older guide books.
For example, this year they had to change the established theory about the ruins because of the new discovery of the new ruins nearby.

By the way, I wrote about baby Alpacas in the yesterday’s posting. It was a fraud…that was a baby lamb…. She lied to me!
Even a brand new baby Alpaca is 1m long!

Wild rabit.

It looks strong and tough.

At the entrance, there was a picture of the site when discovered in 1912.

When it was found, there was a local family living there. The site was left like the way it was and it makes it so real in the picture.

Machu Picchu site was unknown before being brought to the world by the American historian Hiram Bingham from Yale University.

Needless to say, he contributed for Peru to grow bigger.

It was a quick 3 hour visit, but I enjoyed it so much.

I saw some ladies in a train.

These mysterious looking ladies are from Medellin, Columbia.

Medellin is famous for beautiful ladies.
I did not imagine that I would meet them here because I didn’t visit Medellin in Columbia!

You get some snacks on the way back.
They have some wine and other alcohol beverage if you pay.

They also had a fashion show of Alpaca ponchos, sweaters, Shawls, Scarves, jackets, and etc. in each car. It was exciting!

Of course, the beautiful ladies were asked to be models.
I did not think they were just regular ladies. They looked so professional by looking at their smiles and how they walked.

The items made by 100% baby alpaca feel good and they could last lifetime. A sweater costs about 10,000yen. If you buy them in Japan, they cost 3-4 times more.

With my tour guide, George.

He was born in Columbia and lived in Japan from 8 to 30 years old. He has a Japanese spirit. He used to live near my house, Nishi Azabu in Tokyo, and used to ride a motorcycle. Also there is only one year difference in our age. We have many common things, so we became good friends.

I am looking forward to seeing him again!

【ペルー】クスコ滞在２／マチュピチュの旅
２０１１年１２月１３日（火）

早朝５：４０、クスコのホテルを出発します。

ガイドさん同伴のワゴン車で２０分走り、ポロイ駅に到着。
そこからマチュピチュ（旧アグアス・カリエンテス）駅まで列車で３時間強の移動です。

おおっー！

「世界の車窓から」(笑)

超〜新鮮です。
外の景色を人ごとのように眺めてられるのが不思議でしょうがない。

そして、なんと！

朝食が出て来るではないか！

快適だなー。
同じ場所を移動する旅でも、バイクと列車でこうも違うとはね。
バイクでは移動中、戦いだもんな。

そして、マチュピチュ駅に到着！
３時間以上乗っていたとは思えないほど、あっと言う間でした。
ちなみに基本、バイクや車ではここまで来る事が出来ません。

マチュピチュの町と遺跡を保護する観点から道路を途中から造らないというのが政府の方針とのことです。

駅を出ると沢山の土産物が立ち並び、旅行会社のガイドさんが待っています。

そこからマイクロバスに乗り換えさらに３０分、山道を登ります。

ここは完全ダート。
ちなみにこのバスなどの車両は全て鉄道で運ばれてきます。
一瞬、悩みました。
地下鉄はどうやって、電車を入れるんでしょうねえ、と同じ発想です。
・・違う？

来ちゃったよ＝！！

本当にガイドブックどおりだ！(笑)

まさに「空中都市」！
１５００年代にスペイン軍がこの南米を征服にやって来て、当時全土を支配していたインカ帝国の街という街を全て破壊したそう。
ただ、麓からもその存在がわからず伝説の都市とされてきたこのマチュピチュだけはスペイン軍も見つけることが出来ず、まったく被害がなかった場所とされる。
上空からしかその存在が確認出来ないとされるのがその所以だそう。

何ともロマンがあるじゃないですか！！

ズーム！

神殿、住居、広場、水路、天文台、学校・・完全なる都市機能を持っていたことが判る。

オンシーズン（５月ー９月）から外れているとは言え、結構な人が来ています。

何か感じますか？

あちらこちらで、マチュピチュが持つパワーを受ける為に何かをしている人を見かけます。

伝説の都市に入ります！

これで夏至と冬至の時期を確認しカレンダーの源になっていたのだと。

ガイドがいるお陰で内容が把握出来るのは有り難い。

ただ一人でここを歩いたら、どんな想いが降り注いできただろうかとも思う。

手抜きの跡がここのポイント、と聞いて笑いと安心と。
建設中に王がいなくなったことで石工の仕事が最後はいい加減になったのだと。
完全主義を貫いたとされる古代インカ人も人間的なところがあっていいじゃない。

インカ文明の特筆は石工技術。

大きな岩で周囲の景色を作り出すのはワケないよ、と当時の石工の声が聞こえるようだ。

感心するのはこの水路。

山から引き、都市内を縦横無尽にそれも完全に計画的に流されている水路の設置には舌を巻く。
これによって種々の建築、農業、漁業などが発展し、インカ帝国成功の理由の一つになったことが頷ける。

まさに「Warter is Life」だ。

１６ある水汲み場。

しかし何故、９００名ほど暮らした村民がこの街を放棄して去っていったのかは今も謎だとされる。

標高２４００mのマチュピチュに生息するラマ。

アルパカがいると聞いていたが３０００m以上の寒冷地でしか生息出来ないそう。
今回は勉強家のガイドさんのお陰で、最新のマチュピチュ情報を聞く事が出来た。

他の遺跡もそうだが、特にこのマチュピチュではどんどん情報が更新され、少し前のガイドブックとは違う内容になっているところが多いと言う。
例えば今年、発見された近くの遺跡によって今までの定説が覆されたりしているとも。

あ、そう言えば昨日のアルパカの赤ちゃん・・あれ、騙されました(笑)
羊の赤ちゃんですってww 　あのオバハン、嘘つきだなー！
アルパカの赤ちゃんは生まれたてで、すでに身長１m以上あるんですって。

野生のうさぎに遭遇。

こいつ、強そう。
キッ、としてますね。

遺跡入り口のレストラン内に発見直後１９１２年の写真が掲示されていた。

実は発見当時、既に現地民一家族だけ暮らしていたそうだが、全く手つかずにされていた遺跡の様子が生々しい。

第一発見者とされるハイラム・ビンガム。
正確には初めて世界にマチュピチュの存在を発表した人で米国エール大学の研究者だった。

彼の活動がペルーの発展を後押ししたことは言うまでもない。

あっという間の３時間に滞在でしたがかなり堪能出来ました。

帰りの電車に乗り込むと、

コロンビアのメディジンから来たという謎の美女グループと隣同士に。

メディジンって美人で有名な街ですが私は行きませんしたがここで出会えるとは！

帰りの列車でも軽食が出ます☆
有料でワインなどのアルコールも楽しめる。

さらには車両毎にファッションショーが行われ、車内は大盛り上がり！
主にアルパカ素材のポンチョやセーター、ショール、マフラー、ジャケットなどが次々と紹介されていきます。

やはりというか、美女グループは急遽モデルとして参加させられていました。
でも、その歩きっぷりとプロっぽい笑顔はただものではないな。

「１００％Babyアルパカ」の品は手触り最高で、一生ものなんだそうです。
現地ではセーター一枚、１万円くらい。
日本では３−４倍するそうです。

長い一日、ガイドを務めてくれたホルヘ（ジョージ）さんと。

生まれはコロンビアだが、８歳〜３０歳まで日本に住んでいたというからもう心は日本人。
私の自宅の近所の西麻布にも住み、元バイカーで年齢が一つ違いだったので大盛り上がり！

また会えることを楽しみにしています！

今日は、旅行会社へ行き明日のマチュピチュツアーの手続きにいきます。

この旅初めての現地ツアーへの申し込みです。
マチュピチュはとっても有名なのに、無知な私がこの滞在を有効にするためにお願いをしました。

町の中心のアルマス広場。
世界遺産の町クスコは、コロニアルかつ重厚な造りの建造物でいっぱいです。
人口３０万人の大きな町です。

１ソルで写真撮らない？と呼び止める女性が抱えているものを見ると、アルパカの赤ちゃんですって！

昨日、食べちゃったけど、可愛いから、撮影！

可愛いなー。

あかちゃんは美味しいのかなー、なんて事はこれっぽっちも思いません。

ここは有名なストリート。

「カミソリの刃も通さない」との伝説どおり、しっかりとくみ上げられた石塀。

その中に唯一１２画の岩があると。
それを観光客が探し当てる場所なのです。

すぐに発見出来ました。
だって、この石の前だけ、土産物やと記念撮影用のインディアンが立ってんだもの。

明日のマチュピチュ見学のために、水のペットボトルを入れる丁度良いホルダーがぶらさがっている店に入りました。

中では一生懸命、男性がミシンで作業しています。

娘もお父さんのお手伝い。

私のために壁にかけてある製品をとろうとしてくれています。
この直後、全部、落っこっちゃいました。(笑)

小銭が少し足らなったのでおまけしてくれます。
３ソル。（９０円）

お茶した後、宿に戻ってパニアケースの修理です。
今までは運良く大丈夫でしたが、いつ大事故に繋がるやら。

一時間ほど格闘の末、完全に直せて一安心＾＾！

これで気分よく、マチュピチュへ明日、向かえます！

今日はナスカからクスコまで向かうのですが、長旅なので早く出発します！
I go to Cuzco from Nazca today and it will be a long journey, so I will start early!

ナスカの町を抜けて５０キロほどは道幅が狭く、ヘアピンカーブが延々と続きます。
さらにほとんどがブライドコーナーになっていて先が見えにくい。
標高３０００mまで一気に駆け上って行きます。
It escapes from Nazca, and road width is narrow and about 50 km of hairpin curves continue for a long time.
Moreover, most of corners are blind corner and it's hard to see forward.
I drive straight up to the altitude of 3000 m.

気温が急激に下がってきた（１０℃）ところでアンダーウェアを着込み、グローブを変え、レインウェアの下を履き、ネックウォーマーをして完全武装です！
これで、氷点下くらいまでは凌げるぞ！
That temperature has fallen rapidly (10 ℃), so I'm fully-armored that I wear underwear, a pair of rain pants and neck warmer and change globes!
It can exceed even in the freezing point now!

道幅が少し広くなったところに事故現場が。
There is a scene of an accident at the point of the road becoming narrow.

走り慣れた地元だろうドライバーでも事故るほどのワインディング。
気を引き締めていこう。。
It is a winding load which pushes an accident also with the local driver which got used to drive.
I will brace myself.

つづら折りの道を順調に走っていると今までのものとは違う雰囲気の動物が前を横切る！
急減速！！
When I'm driving the switchback favorably, the animal of the atmosphere different from before will cross a front!
Abrupt slowdown!!

アルパカ？
Alpacas?

これはたぶん、ビクーニャでしょう。
ラマと並んで見分けがつきにくいラクダ科の可愛い動物です。
These will be probably vicugnas.
It is a lovely animal of the department of a camel which cannot be easily distinguished with llama.

３０００mのあと、一旦、２０００m台まで下がり、また標高が上がっていきます！
After 3000 m, it once falls to 2000 m set, and altitude goes up!

４４００m超え！
この旅の最高地点更新です！
Over 4400 m!
It is renewal of the highest point of this journey!

さらにその後、４６００mあたりまで登ったようです。
After that, it seems that it reached to about 4600 m.

今日の行程のうち一部、直線部分があります。
There is a linear way among today's distance in part.

高度４０００mの大地は雲が低い！
超爽快です！！

It is so invigorating!!

そんな高地に生息するアルパカの大群に出会います。
I meet with a large herd of the alpaca which inhabits such high ground.

おーいと呼ぶと、When I say HEY!,

振り向きます。
つぶらな瞳です。
they turn around.
They are shoe-button eyes.

アルパカ達と追いかけっこ。
I chase Alpacas.

めちゃめちゃ愛くるしい！　可愛いなー。
They are so adorable! Lovely.

S字カーブの連続する区間です。
ヘアピンが多くところでは撮影の余裕がありません。
It is the section where S character curve continues.
In a place with many hairpin curves, I'm too busy to take pictures.

クスコまではまだまだあります。。
There is a long way to get Cuzco still.

前方の巨大トレーラーをいつものように追い越して少し走った時、
When I passed a huge trailer which is in front of me and drive more,

「ガシャーン！！」
”Bash!!"

と音がしてバイクが振れる。
the motor bike was shaken with this sound.

後ろを振り返ると、何と！今度は左のパニアケースが落下！！！
When I turned around, the left side of pannier fell down!!!

後方のトレーラーもビックリして停車。
慌てて拾いに行き、なんとか取り付ける。
確認するとバイクにロックする部分のヒンジが弱くなっていた。
１００回を超す転倒、７００００キロの走行でかなり傷みがあるようだ。
明日宿で修理しなければ・・。
The trailer behind me was surprised and made a stop.
I go to gather confusedly and attach it somehow.
When I check, the hinge which rocked with the motor bike was getting weak.
I've fallen down over 100 times and driven 70000 km, so it deteriorates bad.
I have to repair at a hotel tomorrow.

ほぼワインディングでの６５０キロは途方もなく疲れる！
防寒装備と、軽食をとるために二度停車しただけであとは走り詰めです。
In 650 km driving in a winding load, I'm exhausted!
I made only 2 stops when I prepared for warm clothes and had snacks.

やっと、やっと、クスコの町に到着しました！
Finally I arrived at Cuzco!

時間は１８：１５。
出発から１１時間！　はー！
The time is 18:15.
It's been 11 hours! Haahh!

ホテル。
The hotel.

バイクは何と、中庭風のロビースペースへ入れさせてもらいました！
They allowed me to park at the lobby space which is like an inner court yard!

もう一組、バイク乗りのカップル（ロンドン在住）がいたのでしばし談笑後、部屋に入り荷を解くともう２０：００過ぎ。
There is a couple who is from London and also drive motor bike, so we had a chat for a while. After that, I went to my room and unpack my luggage and it's already around 20:00.

実質、６：００くらいに朝食をしただけだったので腹ぺこでフラフラ。
Actually I had a breakfast at 6:00, so I'm starving.

急いで食事に出かけ、最寄りのレストランへ飛び込む。
I went out for dinner hastily and came into a restaurant near by the hotel.

メニューの中で目に付いたものがあったので注文。
Since there is something which stood out in the menu, I ordered it.

これ何でしょう？What is this?

アルパカのケバブ。ww
A kebab of alpaca. lol

ラム（羊）っぽい歯ごたえに独特のくさみがあります。
It is resilient like a lamb and a peculiar flavor.

今日は有難う、アルパカ！
お世話になりました。
Thank you very much for every thing today, Alpaca!

[Peru] From Lima to Nasca
December 10th, 2011 (Saturday)

ホテルでピックアップされ、小さなナスカエアポートに向かう。
After being picked up at the hotel, I get driven to Nasca's tiny airport.

いよいよ、地上絵を見るフライトです！
It's a flight to see the famous 'line drawings' of Nascar!

思ったより、いろいろ手続きがある。
There's more preparation and paper work to be done that I had tought!

なぬ？体重測定？
周りにいた女性陣は苦笑い。
機体のバランスを取る為に調整するんですって。
なるほど、飛行機がちっちゃいからね。
What?? We're being weighted?
The ladies produced a bitter smile.
We're told that the weight is needed to that the can calculate the amount of petrol they need properly.
Oh, ok, the planes are really, really small, hence that's why.

そして、国際線なみのセキュリティゲート。
ベルトまで外されました。
Then a security lane like we find them in international air ports.
I was required to even take the belt off!

こんなところでハイジャックするやつがいるんかい？

Are there really people that might try to hijack a plane in a place like this?

滑走路へ歩いきます。
Then we walk to the run way.

私が乗るセスナ。
かなり小さいほう。
That's the Cessna I'll be flying in.
It really is on the small side, isn't it.

パイロット達含め、６人の搭乗です。
Including the pilot, there's space for 6 people altogether

オーストラリア人のカップルと、スペイン語を話す兄ちゃんと一緒です。
地上絵が図表になったものを見ながらのフライトです。
I'm in the group with an Australian couple and a Spanish speaking guy.
We're given a sketch of the Nasca lines, so that we can verify what we see while flying.

飛んだ！！！
We have taken off!!

当たり前ですが、何だか、感動しまくり！
Even though the take of is a given, I somehow feel a bit emotional!

一発目！
何か、わかりますか？
First spotting.
Do you know what it is?

そう、クジラです！
Correct, it's a whale!

おおっ！
Ooh!

宇宙飛行士が見えた日にゃ、のっけから機内は大盛り上がり！
すげーーーっ！！
This is the day I saw an astronaut! And we're served the good stuff right away by the pilot it seems
This is amaaaazing!

これは？
And this!

ハチ鳥ですね！

It's a humming bird, isn't it.

ちょっと映りが良くありませんが、

犬でーす！！！
This isn't a very clear picture, but in any case it's a dog!!!、

肉眼では見にくかったのですが、写真はよく撮れていました。
This one was difficult to see with the naked eye, but I managed to take a good picture.

サル〜！！
A monkey!

これ、カッコイイでしょ＾＾！
And this one is pretty cool, right?

コンドル！

It's a condor!

オウムですって。
And this one is a parrot.

上空から見たミラドール（観察やぐら）
And this is the Mirador (look out point) seen from high up.

約３５分のフライトでした！
大満足！
天気もいいし、かなり低空飛行してくれたお陰でほとんどの地上絵がバッチリ見えました。
The flight lasted about 35 minutes.
I'm completely satisfied and happy with what I've seen.
The weather was also nice, and the pilot flew well low so that we were able to the lines very well.

但しこのフライト、噂以上に飛行機酔いには注意です！
私は乗り物にはかなり強いほうなのと酔い止めを飲んでおいたので良かったですが、それでも最後はちょっとキました＾＾；。
前に座っていたオージーのカップルはかなりキツそうでした。
However, in this kind of flight, you should be mindful of, even more than the rumours tell you, with flight sickness.
I took quite strong anti-sickness medication before going on the plane. Even so, at the end I felt a little bit wobbly.
For the couple and the guy in front it was apparently quite tough.

一旦宿に戻ってバイクで再び出発！
As soon as I got back to the hotel, I get on the bike and head off again.

町から２０分ほど走ると、ナチュラルミラドール（観測丘）に到着です。
After about a 20 minutes drive I reach the Mirador Natural (observation hill).

頂上からの１８０°パノラマです。
From the top it's a 180° panorama.

パンアメリカンハイウェイ。
This is the Panamerican Highway.

完全に地上絵の幾何模様の直線を踏んづけています。
この道の開発当時はこの地上絵は重要視されていなかったんだそうです。
It just cuts through the geometric Nasca patterns in a straight line.
Seems like the Nasca lines weren't exactly held in high regard back when the highway was constructed.

紀元前９００年ごろの文明が作った謎の線と模様が広がる大地。
This is the area where the lines are, a riddle created by a civilisation about 900 BC.

本当に真っ直ぐに伸びています。

遺跡保護の観点から線の中に入ることは出来ません。
足元には当時の測量のために使われたと見られる積み石がそのままあります。

It really is absolutely straight.
For archaeological reasons, it's forbidden to walk on or in the lines.
The stones under my feet have been used for measurements at the time of the archaeological surveys , and can be seen as they have been left behind.

ここには何時間いても飽きなかったのは不思議だ。
In this place, no matter how long I'll stay here, I'll never get tired of it. It's strange.

日本からご旅行でいらっしゃってたナガイさんと記念撮影！
Souvenir photo with Nagai-san who is passing through travelling from Japan.

写真を撮る時、ナガイさんに着いていたガイドが「カンパーイ」と言っていた。
When we took the photograph, the guide contracted by Nagai-san said 'Kampai!'.

出会いがあったのはこの前。
We happened to meet in front of this museum.

ナスカ遺跡（地上絵）の研究と保護を進めた功労者のマライ・レイへ女史のミュージアム。
The museum is dedicated to Maria Reich who has done great service in studying and preserving the Nasca lines.

すでに亡くなった彼女のお墓が敷地内にある。
The tomb of this lady who died quite suddenly can be find inside.

ナスカへの研究と保護のための活動に半生を捧げた。
Apparently she spent half a life time studying and preserving the Nasca lines.

亡くなる間際まで活動していた模様が多くの写真で判った。

たった一つのことに没頭、執着して人生を懸けた人にとても魅力を感じる。

I'm fascinated by people (like her) who are completely immersed and focused on one thing only for all their lives.

彼女の努力があってこそ、現代の私達のような観光客がこのナスカを見て感動し、楽しむ事が出来ているのだろう。
It's probably thanks to her efforts that in modern times tourists like us can enjoy the Nasca lines and have fun.

たぶん、この博物館は未来にはもっと大きくなり、彼女の伝説はもっと有名になることだろう。
Maybe this museum will grow much larger in the future and her legend become famous!?

本当の功労者って生きているうちには中々賞賛されがたいものだと思う。
I think she probably was a person who while alive didn't like to be praised for her achievements.

この敷地内にいた猫。
A cat that was inside.

なんとなく、マリア女史に今でも懐いて棲んでるようだった。
For some reason, Maria Reich seems still to be alive in what she left behind.

この鳥も。
美しい鳴き声を奏で、薄いブルーの羽を僅かに纏っています。
And also this bird.
It had a beautiful voice, and bright blue feathers.

マリア女史が建築したミラドールへ。
２ソル（６０円）払って登ります。
The Mirador that Maria had built.
I pay 2 Sol (60 Yen) and climb to the top.

Hand.

一日中、セスナが飛び続けています。
Mentally, I've been flying in a Cessna already the whole day.

大満足のナスカの旅が終わり、明日はマチュピチュの基点の町、クスコへいきます！
I'm completely satisfied and happy with my time in Nasca. But it's over now, and tomorrow I will go on to Cusco, access point to Macchu Picchu.

ナスカ、楽しかった！！
Nasca – I had a great time.

夢の実現でした！！
It was a dream come true!!

今日は地上絵で有名なナスカへ向います☆
I’m going to head to Nazca where it is famous for Nazca Lines.

ペルーに何があるか知らなくても、ナスカに地上絵があることは知っていました。
それほど純粋に、子供の頃から夢見て来たかった場所です。
Even if I didn’t know much about Peru, I knew about Nazca Lines.
It was my dream to come to this place since I was a kid.

憧れのナスカへ向かっているんだ、と思うだけでテンションが上がります！
It made me so hyper just thinking about heading to the place I’ve dreamed about.

リマの市街地を抜け、パンアメリカンハイウェイを走っているとこのバスが沢山遭遇します。
リマを起点にナスカをはじめ他の都市を結ぶ長距離バスです。
After passing Lima’s city area, I saw a lot of buses on Pan-American Highway.
These long distance buses are based in Lima and connect the main cities including Nazca.

後部にはナスカの地上絵がデザインされて可愛いですね。
これはコンドルです。
There was a picture of Nazca Lines on back on the bus. I like it!
This one is condor.

しばらくの間、強い風でシケる海沿いを走ります。
I drove in strong wind and on the humid coast for while.

このロケーション、大好きなんですよねー！！
I love this location!!

ふと、湘南、江ノ島近辺のルート１３４を思い出します。
南米の楽しさがそうさせるのかな。
アフリカ北西部の海岸線の時は、思い出さなかった。悲壮感で一杯で、辛かったもんな。(笑)
This road reminded me route 134 in the Shonan and Enoshima area.
It might be the fun atmosphere in South America.
I didn’t feel this way when I was driving in the harsh North-west area of Africa (lol).

ここでは思わず、サザンか、チューブか、杉山清貴＆オメガトライブを口ずさんじゃうよ。
I felt like singing Southern All Stars, Tube, or Kiyotaka Sugiyama and Omega Tribe. They are Japanese famous singers.

潮が舞い上がり、景色が霞み、ヘルメットのシールドが曇るのも嫌じゃない。
海岸線を走ってるムードを高めてくれます。
I don’t mind the hazy view, and foggy shield of my helmet, it made my mood raise as I drove the coast.

ほぼ直線が長く続く道は久しぶり。
そんな時、これが役に立ちます。
It’s been long time since I drove a straight long road.
In this kind of situation, this is going to be useful.

ずっとアクセルを開けたままのため、手が疲れるのですが、これがあるとグリップに手を添えてるだけでいいんです。
とてもラクチン。
Usually when I drive a long straight road, the gas needs to be open and makes my hand tired. But with this item, all I need to do is to put my hand on grip. It is comfortable.

途中、ランチ休憩をしただけで、一気にナスカまで走りきります。
After one quick lunch break, I continued heading to Nazca.

ついに地上絵があるあたりまで来ました！
Finally, I came to the starting area of Nazca Lines!

無機質感漂う、ガレた大地が広大に拡がっています。
The empty atmosphere and dried field is vast.

こんなところに地上絵が本当に存在するのか？そんな気になる場所で、パンアメリカンハイウェイがその中を約３０キロに渡って伸びています。
This view made me curious if Nazca Lines really exist. This view was continued about 30 kilometers on Pan-American Highway.

バイクのステップに立ち、見渡しながら走行しますが、古代人が描いた図や線らしきものは見つけることが出来ません。
Standing on the steps of the bike, but riding while looking, painted figures andthose ancient people line can not be found.

観察やぐら「ミラドール」（高さ２０m）
This is an observation tower, Mirador. (20 meters high)

これは地上絵の著名な研究家、マリア・ライへ女史という方が建築したもの。
登ると、二つの地上絵を確認できるそう。
ちなみに、地上絵は３０個ほど存在するのだそうです。
This tower was built by renowned researcher, Maria Reiche.
I was told that I could confirm two Nazca Lines from top of this tower.
Lines are about 30 total.

そんなパンアメリカンを走っていると、頭上にセスナが！
I saw a Cessna Airplane above me when I was driving Pan-American Highway!

おおっ！あれだ、あれ！
あれに乗って上空から地上絵を見るんだな！
Oh! That’s it!
I’m going to ride in an airplane to see Nazca Lines from sky!

直接空港へ行って乗れる飛行機を探すことも考えたが、結果、無難に町の中で申し込むことにする。
I thought about going to the airport to find an airplane to see Nazca Lines. However, I decided to stay in the town and apply for airplane ride.

ナスカの町へ入ります！
I entered the town of Nazca!

現地語表記はナズカ。
なまってるね。
It’s Nazca, not Nasca in the native word. Sounds funny.

順調に町に入り、目当ての宿に到着！
今回もアメックスさんに手配をお願いしました。
いつも素晴らしい対応をして頂いています。
I arrived in the destination hotel in town safely!
I asked Amex for arrangement again.
They treat me very well every time.

早速セスナの時間を聞くと、今日の分は予約が出来ず、明朝になりました。
セスナから見る地上絵は明日＾＾！　とりあえずひと安心。
I asked for the schedule of next flight, but they said it was all booked today. So I made a reservation for tomorrow.
I cannot wait to see Nazca Lines from sky tomorrow ^^! I felt relieved.

町を徒歩でひとまわりします。
人口３万人のこぶりな町。
I went for walk.
It was small town with the population of 30,000.

中心地はやたら旅行会社が多い！
流石、ナスカですなー。
外国人もかなり目につきます。

There were so many travel agencies in middle of town.
This is what I expected.
There were so many foreigners too.

どうしても私が気になるものはこちら。
南米諸国でのバイクの売り方。
I got interested in these…
Their way to sell motorcycles in South America.

以前にも紹介しましたが、家電屋で売っています。
これは見慣れました。
I mentioned in my former blog, but motorcycles are sold in electronic stores.
I kind a used to see the view.

こんな所でも？
Here’s another place to sell a motorcycle.

家具屋ですよ。家具屋。
流石、南米、バイク天国。
This is a furniture store. Furniture!!
Again, this is what I expected in South America, motorcycle heaven.

ユニークというネーミングのアクセサリーショップ。
This is an accessory shop called unique.

入り口の犬がユニークです。

I think that this dog lying at the entrance of the shop is unique.

町のあちこちに、地上絵をモチーフにしたオブジェが見られるところがナスカです。
Many art objects that are motif of Nazca Lines were seen all over the town.
１０−１

市民の憩いの中心地、アルマス広場。
This park, Plaza de Armas, is a place of rest and relaxation of local people.

床面にも地上絵が美しく埋め込まれています。
A beautiful art of Nazca Lines are buried on the ground.

芝生面にも。
On the glass too.

ナスカはこの地上絵の観光で成り立っている町であることが大いに伺える。
It was very certain that this town is dependent on tourism as Nazca Lines.

町を歩いているだけで地上絵を見に行くテンションは最高に上がります！
I’m so excited to go see Nazca Lines, and my tension went higher by just walking around the town.

夢の実現までカウントダウンです＾＾！
Count down of my dream come true has been started ^^!

[Peru] Lima Visit 3

Today is last day in Peru.
Since I got my bike back, I’m going to do some sightseeing and mail some things to Japan.
I want to visit Travel Agency to get information about Nazca and Machu Picchu.

I arrived in the area that the travel book says there is a travel agency. But I couldn’t find it.
When I was looking around, the security person at the restaurant came up to me.
I showed him the travel book, and told him I wanted to go there.

“Just a second” the security person said.
As he went inside of the restaurant, an early elderly man came out.

Umm… He looks Japanese…

“How may I help you?” the elderly man said in Japanese.

Oh! He is speaking Japanese!

“Are you Japanese?” I asked.

“Yes, I am. But I’m second generation, so I speak Japanese only a little”.

I showed him on the map my world travels after arriving in South America; he was very moved by my story.

The security person came back.

“The travel agency where you are looking for is right around the corner. But they are closed today because of the holiday”

I mentioned him that they are supposed to be open except Sunday according to the travel book. He was so kind enough to go check the agency for me.

“Would you like to come inside and have some drinks? Let’ talk a little. Please I insist. “ The man said.

He was very kind person.

“Are you the owner of this restaurant?” I asked.

“Yes, I am”

Wow!

He owns a very nice restaurant!

The security person went to check the agency and I was not in hurry, so I decided to go inside of the restaurant.

“Thank you for your offer.”

I went inside.

He recommended many meals, but I asked a cup of coffee first.

He shared various stories with me.

It was about Japanese immigrants, economy in Peru, and his family.

His name was Gibo-san.
His parents came from Okinawa, and he was born in Peru.
His wife is also the Japanese second generation, and their conversation is by Spanish only.

“Did your parents speak Japanese?” I asked.

“Umm… They spoke Uchina Guchi, which is Okinawan dialect. It was way different from Japanese. (lol)” Gibo-san said.

Gibo-san asked.

“Are you doing this journey on your own investment?”

“Yes, basically it’s all on me. But I’m doing this for charity, so I’m getting some support and also have sponsors”.

The security person came back while we were talking.

“The agency was closed as I expected. There was nobody there.”

He said.
I appreciated his kind actions.

I wanted to mail some stuff to Japan, but now I found out that the post office and mailing company were all closed today.
I don’t have a choice but to wait till later after I leave Nazca.

I decided to head out after speaking with Gibo-san in about an hour.

“I need to go now. I had a great time, Gibo-san.” I said.

I was about to ask for a check,

Gibo-san said,

“Here”

He put an envelope in front me.

“This is just something from me for you”

“What is it?”

“I just want to show my support for your journey”

“Oh my! Is there money inside?”

“Yes”

“I can’t accept this. I’m the one who needs to pay you”

“Please don’t worry. I just want to help your journey, so please accept my heart”

Tear…

I just met him, and had a cup of coffee for free.

“And also please eat at my restaurant while you are in Lima. Everything is free” Gibo-san said.

“What?”

“I told my staff about it, so you will be ok even if I’m not here” Gibo-san said.

When I turned around to look at the kitchen, there was a tall man who was called Charlie. He looked and winked at me.

…… I lost my words….

It was unbelievable. Am I dreaming?

With Gibo-san in the restaurant.

Surprisingly, he was 80 years old!!! He was very well as his age!

“Can I donate the money I received from you to NPO organization? It is an organization that delivers food to needed families, it is a great organization” I asked.

“Yes, please. Please use whatever you think is the best. Oh, I have something for you too.”

He opened up his trunk of his car, and took many children’s T-shirts out to give it to me.

“In Peru, there are many children who are asking for things on the street. I always carry clothes and snacks for those children in my car. “He said.

What a man he is!!

I shook his hand and said good bye.

“I’m defiantly going to visit here to see you again. Farewell Gibo-san!”

He was standing there saying farewell without any words.

As I got on my bike and started driving, tears came out of my eyes.

It was time to do sightseeing in Lima. There were so many places, so I had to choose wisely.

Cathedral

Today is Peru’s holiday, The Immaculate Conception day. What a name.

There were many people who were celebrating this special event!!!
Pious believers were wearing Blue gowns.

In the oldest most beautiful cathedral in Peru, there were 16 gold and silver carvings on an altar.

I felt like I was falling in to by watching them.

In the open area outside, there was music, dancing, and people carrying a portable shrine.

All the police who were guarding the area were women. Is that because today was The Immaculate Conception day?

This is San Francisco Cathedral.

Is that a symbol of happiness? There were lots of flying cranes on the ceiling.

There was another big event in this area.

As you can see, the color of gowns on the people praying was different in each cathedral. This one was deep red.

This altar was great too.
I noticed that each cathedral has strong motif.

As they started the parade, their excitement peaked!

Next I visited here.
Umm… Kotobuki (Congratulations)??

The sign said “Happy New Year”. Seems a little early!

This is Japan & Peru Culture Center. I visited Japanese Immigrant Information Center where was on second floor. But unfortunately it was closed.

There was also Japanese garden there.

Oh!
I found Japanese restaurant!!
The name is Katana which means sword.

I think that this was the first time I saw that many Japanese people since I started this journey?!

I ordered pork katsu (deep fried) on rice, miso (soy paste) soup, and green tea.

Wow!

It was soooo good!

The flavor was perfect!

It was 30 Sol (900 yen) total.

This is calligraphy area.

I like this one the best.

Origami crane area

As I looked closer, I found out that it was an area to make origami cranes to pray for the Japanese recovery.

This is the main entrance of the center.

There were so many beautiful origami cranes hanging very nicely.

I decided to go back to the hotel.

I realized that I didn’t take a picture of the restaurant of Gibo-san. I decided to stop by on my way back to the hotel. There was the security man that I saw this morning. As soon as he saw me, he said

“Aren’t you going to come inside? You are always welcome”

Thinking about Gibo-san’s kind consideration, and told all his staff about me, it made me feel very warm inside. (Tear)

This is Gibo-san’s restaurant, “Palermo”.
It is in Miraflores. It is right next to the Japanese restaurant “Maido”.

I opened an envelope when I came back to the hotel.

Oh my?!!
I never have seen this kind of currency!

Yes, this was my first time to actually see 100 sol.

It is about 3000 yen in Japanese yen, and there are five!!! 15,000 yen!!!

I’m going to donate whole amount to “Second Harvest” thorough “Just Giving”.

I can’t find the right words to describe Gibo-san’s kindness, and the way he treated me. The experience I had today is going to be my life time treasure.

リマ滞在も最終日。
バイクも戻ってきたことだし、日本へ送る荷物も出しに行きたいし、観光も特にしていなかったので出かけることにする。
ナスカとマチュピチュの手配のために旅行会社も訪問したい。

ガイドブックに載っている近所の旅行会社の場所へ到着するがそれらしきものが見当たらない。
キョロキョロしていると目の前のレストランの警備員が寄って来てくれた。
ガイドブックを見せてこの旅行会社を探していると見せる。

警備員が快く「ちょっと待ってね」と、店内に入って行くと、入れ替わるように初老の男性が私のほうへやってくる。

あれ？　日本人っぽい・・。

男性「どうしました？」

おお、日本語だ！

山田「日本人ですか？」

男性「ええ、でも二世なので、ほとんど日本語は話せないんですけどね。」

私のバイクのマップを見て、世界を周り、南米まで来たことを知るととても感激してくれた。

警備員が戻って来た。

「この会社はすぐこの先だけど、今日は祝日なのでやってないと思うよ」

うーん、ガイドブックには休日は日曜のみ、と書いてあることを言うと見に行ってくれると言う。
なんて優しいんだ！

男性「どうですか、店に入って飲み物でも。少し話しませんか？どうぞ、どうぞ、遠慮なさらずに」

なんだかとっても優しいぞ。そしてとても良い人みたい。

山田「この店のオーナーなんですか？」

男性「そうです。」

うひゃー。

こんな素敵な店を経営なさっているんだ！

警備員が旅行会社を見に行ってくれている事もあるし、今日はそれほど急ぐこともないので、

「じゃあ、ちょっとだけ・・」

と言って店に入る。

あれこれ食べ物も奨めてくれるがとりあえずコーヒーだけ注文させてもらう。

いろいろお話を聞かせてもらった。

移民された日本人のこと、今のペルーの経済のこと、ご家族のこと等々。

お名前は「ぎぶ」さん。
ご両親が沖縄からペルーに移住され、ご本人はペルー生まれ。
奥さんは同じく二世の日本人だが、夫婦の会話も完全にスペイン語なんだと。

山田「へー、沖縄からいらっしゃったご両親は日本語で会話されていました？」

ギブさん「うーん、“うちなーうち”と言って沖縄語でしたよ。日本語とは言えないものでしたねえ(笑)」

ギブさんが切り出す。

「自分の資金で世界を走っているんですか？」

山田「はい、基本、自己資金ですが、チャリティでやっているので応援してくれるスポンサーもいるんですよ。」

そうこうしているうちに警備員が戻って来た。

警備員「やはり今日は休みでやっていませんでしたよ。」

報告をしてくれた。
確認出来ただけでも有り難い。

日本へ荷物を送ろうにも郵便局も宅急便会社も全部休みだと判った。
ナスカ以降で出すしかないな。。

小一時間ほどギブさんと話しをさせて頂いた後、そろそろ出発することにした。

「じゃあ、そろそろ行きますね。ギブさん、楽しかったですよ。有り難うございました。」

お会計を、と言いだそうとした時、

ギブさんが、

「これを」　

と言ってテーブルの私の前に出し出す。

ギブさん「これは、私からのほんの気持ちです」

山田「え、何ですか、これ？」

ギブさん「貴方の旅のちょっとでも助けになればと思って」

山田「ええっ！ちょ、ちょっと待って下さいよ！　して、これ、お金ですか？！！」

ギブさん「は、はい」

山田「いやいや、これは受け取れませんって！私がお代を払う側ですから！」

ギブさん「いやいや、私もあなたのお手伝いをしたいんですよ。だから、とっておいて下さい。」

・・くっ。（涙）

さっき、出会ったばっかですぜ。。コーヒーだってごちそうになるのに。

ギブさん「それから、貴方がリマにいる間は、私の店で食べて行って下さい。全て、無料です。」

は？

ギブさん「私が居ない時でも大丈夫なように、彼に言っておきました。」

キッチンのほうを向くと、チャーリーと呼ばれた背の高いマネージャーらしき男性がこちらを見てウインクしている。

え、あ、う、お・・（驚）　言葉にならない。(笑)　

アンビリーバブルなシーンに出くわしちゃってるよ。俺・・。
夢でも見てんのか？！

店内で、ギブさんと。

なんと、御年８０歳だった！！　お元気です！

私が、「では、頂いたお金を私のチャリティ活動の寄付にあてさせてもらっていいですか？
食に困っている家庭に食材を届ける活動をする素晴らしい団体があるんですよ。」
と言うと、

「どうぞ、どうぞ、それは貴方の自由です。・・あ、だったら、貴方に、もう一つ。」

車のトランクを開けたと思ったら、子供用のTシャツを何枚もくれた。

ペルー（ナスカ）のロゴが可愛い！

「ペルーでは街角で物乞いをしている子供が沢山いるでしょ。そんな子たちにあげるために、そんな服や、こういったお菓子などをいつも車に積んでいるんですよ」

・・何と言う、お方でしょう！

握手とハグをして別れます。

「いつか必ずまたここに来てギブさんを訪ねます。それまでお達者で！！」

ギブさんは無言で、笑顔で私を見送ってくれた。

バイクに乗って走り出すと、涙が溢れ出た。

リマの市内観光をします。
見所が多すぎるので、絞りに絞って、

カテドラル。

今日はペルーの祝日で、
「聖母受胎の日」これまたすごい名前。

なので教会には特別な行事のために人がいっぱい！！
敬虔な信徒達は青い服を着用しています。

ペルーいち古い大聖堂には金、銀箔、彫刻の見事な祭壇が１６もあります。

見ていると惹き込まれます。

広場では、音楽や、踊り、神輿が練り行われている。

警備にあたる白バイ隊員が全員女性なのは、今日（聖母〜）にちなんでか。

サン・フランシスコ教会

幸せの象徴？　沢山の鳩が宙を舞っています。

こちらでも大イベントが行われています。

教会毎に信徒達の服装が違うことが判る。
こちらでは深い赤色でした。

この教会の祭壇も凄かった。
一つ一つに強烈なモチーフを感じる。

パレードへ出発する時、盛り上がりは最高潮に！

次に行った所。
え、寿？

「あけましておめでとうございます」だって！早っ！！

日秘（日本＆ペルー）文化会館です。
２Fにある日本人移住史資料館を訪ねたのですが今日はお休みでした。
残念。

日本庭園まであります。

おお！
和食レストランがあるではないか！
その名も「Katana」（刀）

こんなに日本人見たのこの旅初めてじゃないか？！！

カツ丼、みそ汁、お茶を注文しました。

むひょーっ！

う、旨いーーっ！

こらあ、完璧な味付けです！！

全部で３０ソル（９００円）でした。

習字の展示コーナー。

やっぱ、これが好きだな。

折鶴コーナー？

よく見ると日本の復興を願い千羽鶴を集めるものでした。

そして、会館の正面玄関に、

見事に沢山の鶴が鶴されています。

そろそろホテルに戻ります。

あ、そう言えば、ギブさんのお店の全体の写真を撮ってなかったなあ、ということで帰り際に店の前にいくと、朝いた警備員の兄ちゃんがいます。
私を見つけるなり、

「店に入っていかないの？貴方はウェルカムなのですよ。」

と言ってくれるではないか・・。
いや、ギブさん、マジで店員みんなに私のことを伝えてあるんだと思うとまた、ぐうお〜っ。（泣）

ギブさんのお店「Palermo」
ミラフローレス地区。和食「Maido(まいど)」のすぐ近く。

宿に戻って封筒の中身を見ると、

なんじゃ？！！
この札、見たことない！

そうなんです、１００ソル紙幣を見るの初めてだったんです。

日本円にして約３０００円。それが５枚もー！！！
１５０００円ですよ！！！

ギブさんの優しさ、私への対応、・・言葉になりませんが、今日の出来事も一生の宝物となりました。

７万キロ点検完了！
フロントフォーク（サスペンション）のオイルシールの在庫が無かったためフォークオイル交換が出来なかったとのこと。
残念。。
その代わりに、私のサイズのブーツの在庫があったので購入出来ました。

担当者のセザールと記念撮影をしてお別れ。
ムーチョ・グラシアス！

アディオス！

購入したオフロード？タイヤ。

確かにリアタイヤは完全にオフではないが、今履いているものよりはダートはマシかな。

これで、残りの南米１３０００キロを走破しようと思います。
タイヤの交換は、ボリビアのラパスあたりでしましょうか。

あーっと、嬉しいことがありました。

Naomi Druskicちゃんからメールがあったのです。
ナオミちゃんはボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナで子供インタビューに応じてくれた、天才ピアニストの女の子です！

[Peru] Lima / Kid's Interview

December 6th 2011 (Tuesday)

今日はリマで子供インタビューを行います！
日本に住むペルー人の友人、マリエラ・ホプキンスさんの親戚が小学校の校長先生／経営者をなさっているということでそちらへ伺います。
Today, I'll be doing the Kid's Interview here in Lima.
Mariella Hopkins, the friend of a Peruvian friend of mine from Japan, has a relative who is the head teacher and owner of a primary school. And that's were I'm heading for.

まず、教えてもらった住所の近くへ行くが町に入れない。。
街道からその町へ入る道がゲートで閉ざされている。
ぐるぐる回ってみるがなんと全ての道がそうなっている。
But first of all, when I arrive close to the location I was indicated, I can't get in.
The access road from the highway to the village is gated, and the gate is shut.
I drive all around the village, but it's the same every where.

えー、入れないよ、この町！！！（汗）
What? I can't enter this village !!! (Slightly stressed ...)

偶然、タクシーが出て来きた門からなんとか入らせてもらった。
なるほど高級住宅街エリアで高いセキュリティで守られているようだ。
目的地に近付くと、笑顔で私を見てる男女がいらっしゃる。
校長先生のと通訳の先生がお出迎え＾＾！
By chance, a Taxi just left through the gate, and I managed to just about sneak in before it closed.
Oh, I see. The whole area consists of only luxury houses, and hence there are high security measures in place.
When I get closer the my goal, I guy is waiting for me with a smile on is face.
I'm warmly received by the head master, and the teacher that will act as a translator.

挨拶を済ませて校舎内に入らせてもらうと、なんと日の丸が一杯じゃないか！
朝一で伺ったので、これは前日から準備をなさってくれてたに違いない。
のっけから感動です。。
ううっ！
After the initial greeting and mutual introductions, I was let inside the school building... where I found plenty of Japanese flags hanging from the walls and ceilings.
Since I arrived first thing in the morning, it's no doubt that these had been prepared the day before. I'm really moved!

授業風景の参観のために教室へ入ります。
In order to see the scenery of a lesson, I enter a class room.

私を見るなり、園児達が駆け寄ってくれて、
抱きついたり、すり寄ったりしてくれます。(嬉)
くー、めちゃめちゃ可愛いったらありゃしない！
And as soon as they see me, the kindergarten kids come running towards me, hug me and cuddle up to me (Happy!).
Wow, this is really sweet!

ええっ？！
Ermhhh?!

日本語お＝！！
Isn't that Japanese???

週に４回、日本語の授業が行われているとのことで、子供達もいくつかの言葉を発してくれます。
There are Japanese lessons 4 times a week, so the kids try to use with me the vocabulary they've learned .

「名前はなんですか？」
「結婚していますか？」
「子供はいますか？」
What's your name?
Are you married?
Do you have kids?

一生懸命、覚えた言葉で質問をしてくれます。
I get asked questions that they previously have memorised with all the might of their little heads

そして、
「ペルーは好きですか？」
って、超可愛い顔した子供が聞いてきた日にゃ、誰も好きじゃないなんて言える訳ないじゃん！
実際、僕は大好きなのでいいんだけどさ。
And then [Do you like Peru?]. Being asked such a think by a cute looking kid, there's no way of course that any could say 'No, I don't'.
Well, in my case, I actually do like the country, but really ;)

さらに私の訪問の歓迎の意を込めて、
ペルーのフォークダンスを披露してくれました！
Then, to celebrate my visit to the school, the performance of a Peruvian folk dance is announced!

何、この私への扱いは？！　VIP？？
What, why I am treated in this way?! Am I a VIP?!

インタビューの開始です。
次から次へと子供がやって来ます！
Start of the interview.
One by one, the kids take turns to be interviewed.

残念ながら編集の都合上、全員を撮影することは出来ませんでしたが、彼らの答える内容はバラエティに富んていてとっても楽しいものになりました！
Unfortunately, due to editing issues, I couldn't record each and every one of them, but the variety of their answers made it all very entertaining and fun.

また全員が、ペルー伝統の民族衣装を着て来てくれたことにも感激！
And the fact that for this occasion they all came to school dressed in the Peruvian national dress, made a deep impression on me.

そして、この学校内の高学年の子供達が語る夢の手紙をプレゼントしてくれたんです！
And then I was given letters written by the children of the upper grades, in which they would explain their dreams!

かけがえの無い財産になるなあ。
These are will for sure become something irreplaceable.

私が子供インタビューをしながらその内容に、イチイチ感動したり、反応したりしていると、先生の一人が言う。
While I was interviewing the kids, I would react and respond individually to each one of them. Seeing this, one of the teachers said:

「日本人のイメージが変わったわ！私が知っている日本人は皆、固く、真面目で、あまり感情を表に出さずに、お辞儀する。でも、あなた、違うわね〜。」
“I do of course understand the Japanese! The Japanese that I know, all of them without exception, are very formal, diligent, hardly every show emotions, and bow at every opportunity. But – you are different!”

そうなのかな？
日本人でも私の周りの人はみんな、ハジケていて面白いんだけどな。
Hmm, is that really the case, I'm wondering.
At least all the people I'm surrounded by in Japan are all bubbly and fun people.

ひとしきり子供インタビューが終わった所で、先生達にも子供の頃持っていた夢を聞いてみた。
不思議と、子供達の夢を聞いていると周りの大人達のテンションも上がってくるのが楽しい。
これ、万国共通＾＾。
Some time after I had finished the Kid's Interviews, I tried to ask the teachers what their dreams were as a kid.
I actually think it's quite funny how, when you ask a child for his or her dream, the surrounding adults immediately get tense.
And this happens everywhere on this globe.

ずっと通訳をしてくれた英語の美人先生のMelissaは、「世界中旅行をすること」
校長先生のOscarは「貧しい人達でも良い教育を受けられる学校を作る事」
奥さんと力を合わせてここまでこれたんです、とも。
And both answered at the same time:
Melissa, the good looking lady teacher who had been translating for me the whole time, responded “travelling around the world”.
And the head teacher Oscar said “to build a school so that even the poor could receive a good education”. He in fact joint forced with his wife, and this is how far they have come.

もう、素晴らしい！！
夢が叶っているね、と言うと、
「まだまだ、もっともっと大きくして沢山の人達に貢献したい。」
Well, this is brilliant!!
When I say to him that he had already reached his goal, the answer is however “not yet, not yet. There are still many more people who I would like to serve.”

子供の頃の夢を語り実現したOscarと通訳をしてくれたMelissa。
Oscar, who made his childhood dream come true, and Melissa the translator.

私自身、Oscarの話しを聞いてとても感動し、大きな学びを頂きました。
As I was listening to Oscar, I felt deeply moved, and learned an important lesson.

「もう一つ、夢が叶った」！と言ってくれる。
But once I said to me “One more dream as come true”

私のバイクの後ろに乗った時、「ずっとバイクに乗りたかったんだ！」って。
And that was when he was seated behind me on the bike. “I always dreamed of riding a bike” he said.

嬉しいね。
I'm happy!

子供の頃の夢を実現し、さらにまだ夢の途中でいるOscar先生のもとで必ず夢を実現する子供になってもらいたい。
These kids, that are going to school under head teacher Oscar who not only made is original dream come true but also is still on the way to it becoming reality, these kids I would like them to be able to realise their own dreams.

あ、ただ一人の子供だけは、絶対、それ、叶わないよ、という夢を語ってくれました。(笑)

Oh well, but one of the kids told be straight into my face: No way, that dream of yours won't come true I'm sure. :D

その後、バイクのメンテナンスのためBMWのディーラーへ。
After that, it's off to the BMW dealer for bike maintenance.

ペルーでは四輪のBMWとは違う場所で、MINIを扱うディーラーでやっていました。
７万キロ点検、ステアリングの振れの改善のためにフロントフォークのオイル交換を依頼。
さらに、この後のボリビアの悪路対策のためにオフロードタイヤを注文。
・・んが、在庫がないと。
確かにペルーではBMWのバイクをまだ一台も見ていない。
かなり需要が少ないようだ。
In Peru, it's not at the garage of a 4-wheel BMW dealer, but rather at one that otherwise deals with MINIs.
I order a 70'000 kilometre inspection, an exchange of the oil in the front fork to improve the lurching while steering. , and finally off road tyres for the bad roads in Bolivia.
… But there are no off road tyres in stock!
Indeed, in Peru I haven't seen yet a single BMW bike so far.
The demand seems to be rather small.

「完全なオフロードタイヤではないけど近いものならあるよ。ボリビアの道、これでNo,probrem!」ということでそれを依頼。
でも、大丈夫かな。。
“I don't have real off road tyres, however, I've got some that are similar. For the roads in Bolivia that should be no problem” I'm told, and so I order them.
But will this really work?

なんだかんだ言ってホテルに戻ったらもう夕方に近付く時間。
腹減ったー。
So one thing follows the other, and when I return to the hotel it's already early evening.
And I'm hungry!

ホテルから歩いて１０分弱のところに和食レストランがあるとガイドブックに載っているので行ってみる。
Some 10 minutes by foot from the hotel there is a Japanese restaurant, or so it says it the guidebook. And that's were I'm heading to.

わ、結構、高級店で「大使館員御用達」が頷ける。
Wow, this is a fairly upmarket place, that could easily be approved by embassy personnel and bureaucrats.

この旅、初！
スシカウンターでネタを見ての注文！
This, is a first on this journey!
I look on the menu on the cash counters, and order immediately.

まずは、

いきなり、大好きなウニ！！
First of all, and without warning, Uni (sea urchin), one of my favourites!

う、旨ーい！！
Mmmmm, was this goood!

流石、海が近いだけあってネタが新鮮です。
Cleverly, the sea is really close so all the plates are completely fresh.

その後、続けていっちゃいます☆
And so I went on ~

美味しいのはいいのですが、全部、小ぶりなんです。。
It all testes really very nice, but all the servings were a bit on the small side ...

握っているのはイケメンのアンちゃん！
「ワタシは日本と、ペルーのアイノコです」って。
おばあさんが九州の方だとか。
Then the royally good looking young guy behind the counters says:
“I'm a love child Japan and Peru”.
He said that his grand mother came from Kyushuu.

そう言いつつ、「これ私からのサービスです」
And he goes on: “This is special something for you”.

,
やるねえ、流石、高級店。
本当のスシやでやるサービスをしてくれて嬉しかったよ。
Indeed, this is a good, high-end place.
That I got the 'special something' like in a real Sushi restaurant, made me feel quite upbeat.

マグロの握りにゼリーとネギを載せた創作スシだそうで旨い・・！
It was tuna sushi with some jelly and onions. And tasted superb!

全然、腹一杯にならないので、(笑)
Since at this rate, I won't be able to fill my stomach

ざるそばを頼んじゃいました。
(:D) I then ordered Saru-Soba.

これも旨いが、量、少なー。。
This tasted also very nice, but again the portion was tiny ---

しかし、日本食って世界最高です。
But well, Japanese food is around the world high end.

しみじみ。。
Seriously ...
