Children’s Interview 1

My name is Hiroki Otsuka. I am ten years old. I live in temporary housing in Onodai, Souma City, Fukushima prefecture.

Question 1: What is your dream?

I’m a member of the soccer club. I want to be a professional soccer player.

Question 2: What makes you happy?

A lot of my friends were able to come back to school. We can learn and play together again. This is what makes me happy.

Question 3: Please tell me about the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami?

I was at school when it happened. I was picked up by my parents and I went home. We couldn’t go inside for a while. I never ever want something like that to happen again.

Children’s Interview 2

My name is Myu Takahashi. I am eight years old. I am from Kashima, Souma City, Fukushima prefecture.

Question 1: What is your dream?

I don’t have a particular dream, but I’m going to start learning Japanese Calligraphy in third grade. I want to be good at calligraphy.

Question 2: What makes you happy?

Just like today, I enjoy playing with my friends.

Question 3: Please tell me about the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

It was on Friday when it happened. I was carrying a lot of things to the children’s club. The ground was shaking hard. After it finally stooped, we evacuated to the schoolyard .

My name is Kazuto Ito. I am eight years old. I live in temporary housing in Kashima, Souma City, Fukushima prefecture.

Question 1: What is your dream?

I want to be a professional boxer.

When I’m playing a game at my house, I’m happy.

I was doing my homework at an after-school children’s club.

My name is Haruka Kori. I am eight years old. I live in my own house in Kashima, Fukushima prefecture.

Question 1: What is your dream?

I want to be a nurse.

Question 2: What makes you happy?

To be able to live with my family.

Question 3: Please tell me about the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

I stayed at my house for two days, but I later had to evacuate to Aizu.

This was when my World Dream Touring was complete!

日本で子供インタビューが出来たのです！　それも被災地でです。
I was able to interview children in a Japan, a disaster stricken area.

その声は、大変、ちから強く素晴らしいものでした。
希望、願い、絆、仲間、勇気、生きる力、そして夢の大切さをひしひしと感じさせてくれています。
Their voices were very strong and astonishing.
These interviews made me realize how important it is to have hopes, wishes, bonds, friends, and encouragement. It

子供達が震災の地獄絵、惨状を目の当たりにし、それをくぐり抜けていったものだけに、優しく可愛い声の奥に、ぶれない芯が宿っているものを感じました。
also lets us know that it’s imperative to have strength to live and to have dreams.
I saw an unbreakable strength (core heart) deep inside their warm, childish voices. This is because they’re the children who have experienced major disasters. They have seen the infernal view of a stricken area.

この子達は日本の、いや、世界の誇りだと私は思います！
I’m so proud of them and of the many other children in this area. They are not only the pride of the Japanese, but people all over the worlds’.

自分が日本人で良かった・・と思えたぐらいです。
I’m so proud to be Japanese.

私の旅のラストは、１５ヶ月かけての世界６４カ国を通過後、福岡から日本入国。
千数百キロ走ってこの宮城と福島にたどり着き、海にまるのみされた沿岸部を見たあと、この児童クラブにやって来ました。
My 15 month journey will end in Japan. I entered Japan from Fukuoka Prefecture after I traveled to sixty-four countries.
I arrived in Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures after driving a thousand a few hundreds of kilometers. I then came to this children’s club.

子供達とコミニュケーションがとれた今、やっと日本人に戻ることが出来た気がしています。
After communicating with these children, I realized, once again, that I was finally able to return to Japan.

今回、子供インタビューの内容の和訳を普段、映像の編集をしていただいているトンパテレビの足立さんが行ってくれた。

その内容を確認して私自身、あらためて感激しました！(笑)

アボリジニの方々は、今まで接してきた他国の先住民達に比べ、現代社会と距離がある（あえて距離を置く？）と感じています。

そして今回、あえて白人のオージーではなく彼らにインタビューすることに成功出来たわけですが、一番嬉しく感じたことは、メディアなどの影響を受けることなく、その地域、文化、民族としての誇りを持った内容を将来の夢として語ってくれたことです。

ご覧のように、初めて最後の質問まで行き着けないで終わってしまったインタビューとなりましたが、私にとって最高に満足の行く、最後の大陸での活動となりました！

子供インタビューの活動をすることによって地元の人との交流が深まることを考えると手前味噌だがこの企画は本当に素晴らしいものとなったと思っている。

Through this project, Kids Interview, I could interact with local people to build relationships. Considering that, I believe the project has become truly wonderful, although it's self flattering to say so.

特に今回の協力者のホルへは子供探しの段階からとっても意気揚々としていてまるで古い友人でありチームメンバーのように動いてくれた。

Especially my supporter this time, Jorge has been motivated like an old friend. He has even worked hard with me as if a member of the team in the process of finding the children for the interviews.

今では編集のご協力をしてくださっているトンパテレビの足立さんまでノリノリだ。(笑)

Now even Mr. Adachi from my filming parter, TompaTV, is very enthusiastic. lol

チリでは、階級が３っつのグループに明確に別れていることをダニエラのお父さんのフランシスから教えてもらった。
言うまでもないが、高所得層、中間、低所得層だ。

Daniella's father Francisco taught me that in Chile socioeconomic positions are clearly distinguished in three levels. Needless to say, they are upper class, middle class, and lower class.

大人になるにつれ、経済力、コネ、資格、生まれ、場合によっては学閥等にもよって自分の未来の可能性の幅を自ら狭めてしまうことがある。

As we get older, with our financial status, references, licenses, family, academic status, etc., we tend to limit our own possibilities for the future.

しかし子供はまったく純粋だ。

On the other hand, children are absolutely innocent about that.

自分は何にでもなれると思っている。それも本気で。

They believe they could be anything. Without any doubt.

夢を永遠に語れることが幸せの資質なのではと思う。

I think the nature of happiness is to be able to talk about dreams forever.

可能性があることを信じて生きていくことと、可能性がないと割り切り生きて行く事とどちらが楽しいか明確だもんね。

Isn't it obvious which is more fun―to live by believing anything is possible or to believe your future is limited by your past?

子供の声５１　ブラジル人編／ウシュアイア　撮影日２０１２年１月１８日

今回の旅では旅程に反してブラジルへ行くことが出来ませんでした。
しかし、この南米、特にアルゼンチンでバイクを走らせているとブラジル人ライダーに会うことが圧倒的に多いことに驚かされます。
同じ南米人でも、例えばエクアドルライダーとかペルーライダーなどに会うことがありません。

それだけ南米の中でブラジルの豊かさを感じます。
そして私に対して多くのブラジル人が声をかけてくださったことに強い縁を感じましたのでウシュアイアで出会ったブラジル人ご家族にインタビューをお願いしました。

南米中、日本について最もよく知る子供に会えたという思いがあります。

もちろん１０年前であればこういった答えはなかったと思います。

将来、日本にとって南米は「遠くて近い」場所になっていくのではと感じています。

ついに子供インタビューも５０カ国目となりました。
偶然、私の聖地ともいうべきレース場で行えたことは個人的には嬉しい限りです。
The Kid's interview also became the 50th nation at last.
I'm so glad that I could give a kid's interview at the race place which is a holy place for me.

「オートバイレーサーになりたい」
"I want be a motorcycle race driver."

ついに出ました。(笑)
どこかでこの夢を語ってくれる子供に会えないかなあと思っていました。
Finally I could hear it.:-)
I wished I would love to meet a kid who tell it to me in somewhere.

私が生まれて初めてサーキットに行った時、目の前を生身の人間が信じられないスピードで走り抜けて行った時の感動を思い出します。
I remember that when I went to a Circuit for the fist time in my life, I was so impressed that actual human beings are running through by unbelievable speed right in front of me.

このロナルド君も、彼の目に映る、大地を風のように駆け抜けていくライダーに憧れと、敬意と、羨望とが混じり合ったものが強く記憶に残るでしょう。
The feeling with which yearning and respect and envy to the riders who run through the ground like wind reflected in his eyes were mixed will remain to his memory strongly.

この旅で直接、肌で学んでいることは「事実、現場、経験」の大切さです。
It is the importance of " fact, scene, and experience" that I am learning by this trip.

夢を持つこともこの三つが深く影響しているものと思います。
I also regard having a dream as these three having influenced deeply.

今回の子供インタビューは、私が街を歩き、この子！という子を見つけてアプローチをしてみました。
I decided to approach this child while I was walking around the town.

ある意味、とてもボリビアらしい生の声を取材出来たのではないかと思います。
そして今回は、子供は夢を持っているのは当たり前！という私の思いが崩れ去ったことにカルチャーショック以上のものを受けたのです。
I think that this interview was the one that captured the true messages from Bolivia. All ideas that I had about all children having dreams was crushed during this interview. All the while, I was in culture shock.

一人目のダニエラちゃんはしっかり文字は読めて、私からの質問内容は理解出来たのでしたが、その答えは全て「ない」でした。
残念に思うのはこのインタビューではインタビューさせてもらう子供の詳しいバックグラウンドまで知る事が出来ないことなのですが、なんとなく、自由や、希望を持ち合わせていない環境を想像出来てしまったことにたまらなく辛い気持ちになりました。
これが世界の一面の現状なのでしょう。
子供インタビューをしてきて、４９カ国目にして新たに肌で感じた部分でした。
The first girl, Daniela, could read well and understood all my questions. However, to all of my questions, her answer was “No.”
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the backgrounds of the children I interview. This interview made me deeply sad inside, because I had just found out that there are environments where people cannot have freedom and hope.
This is the present situation of some countries in the world.
I realized, once again, how hard their situation was when I interviewed the child in the 49th country.

また二人目のガブリエラちゃんは、やはり平日の昼間でありながら親の仕事の手伝いをしているので学校に行っていないわけですが、親族と一緒に楽しく過ごしていることは伝わってきました。
それが「夢、幸せについて」をしっかと語ってくれた理由だと感じます。
彼女達が住むエリアはとても貧しい場所ということを後から知りましたが、「人に分け与えることが私の幸せ」と言い切るあたりはしっかりとした信仰を持っている表れであると感じます。
The second child was named Gabriela. I was able to see that she was spending quality time with her relatives. However, she stayed home on the weekdays, not even going to school, to help her parents.
This is why she had a strong dream about happiness. She gave me her message.
I found out that the place they lived in was a very poor area. When she mentioned that her happiness is to give something to others, I thought it was based on their beliefs.

また、日本について？の答えに回答は双方なしだったわけですが、ボリビアは街を走る車は９９％日本車です。
でもこういうことにも知識がなく、意識を向けることもないだろうボリビアの子供達の余裕のなさは政情不安が長く続き、貧富の差が南米一の地域の象徴であると感じざるを得ません。
90% of the cars in Bolivia are made in Japan, but both children answered no to my question about Japan.
I can’t help but thinking that this symbolizes how in Bolivia, there is a tremendous gap between the rich and the poor. There is also a persistence of political unrest. This is one of the reasons why children in Bolivia can’t afford to look at their surroundings and gain knowledge.

一日も早く、皆が平等、までいかなくとも笑顔で幸せなクリスマスを迎えられることを切に願わざるを得ません。
I sincerely hope that everyone will have a fair opportunity and have a happy Christmas with a smile.

今回の子供インタビューは総勢５名！

子供は素直なので、世界の中のその国の本当の事情や、日本との関係が伝わってきます。

総じてこの子供達は大変なボランティアイズムを持ち合わせ居ることに感激します。
この学校がプライベートスクールで割合豊かな家庭の子供という理由もあるでしょう。

しかし、一昔前まで「日本に出稼ぎ」するために地球の反対側からやってくるほどの経済的に厳しい国だとは感じられないほどです。

先日、大変なご親切に預かった日系２世のぎぶさん曰く「今のペルーの景気がかなり良いですよ。レアメタルの輸出や建設ラッシュですからねえ」と。
大渋滞が物語るように車も飛ぶように売れている。

そして今の問題は、子供達が意を決めて貧しい人への手助けを語るように貧富の格差の大きい事。
何かしなければ、という想いがこの年齢の子供達から宿っていることが愛おしくて仕方ない。

一人の子供が、

「夢は、動物になること」と言い、実はリハーサルでは「タイガーになりたい」と真顔で言っていた。

そんなの無理だよ、とは言わないよ。
だって、ウチの娘はドラゴンになりたいって言っていたくらいだから。

きっと、この子の親や、周りの教師も

「人生は思った通りになる！信じた通りに生きなさい！」

と教えていることが手に取るように感じられてとっても嬉しかった＾＾！

My name is Roland.
I'm 11 years old.
I'm an Ecuadorian.

Q1. My dream is to be a singer.
Q2. I'm happy when I study and sing songs with Ms. Akiko.
Q3. "Kanpai" (It means cheers in Japanese.) "Moshi moshi" (It means hello in Japanese when answering a phone call.) And the song "SUKIYAKI".

「歌手になりたい。」

”I want to be a singer."

ハンディがあってもしっかりと答えてくれた彼。

He told us clearly even he has a handicap.

その想いは純粋で、練習して上手くなれば本当になれるんじゃないか、と信じている気持ちが伝わってきました。

His heart is so pure and I could feel his heart and belief that he can be a singer when he practices and getting improved.

その背景には森田さんはじめ周囲の先生や大人が彼の好きなことを伸び伸びとさせて上げて、本気で応援しているからに他なりません。

It is surely that he can have belief strongly because Ms. Akiko, surrounding teachers and adults make the background make his favorite thing relieved and support him seriously.

だから彼は二つ目のの質問の答えに「幸せは、あきこ（先生）と一緒に唄ったり学んだりすること」だと言っています。

So that he told us that his happiness is to study and sing songs with Ms. Akiko as his answer of 2nd question.

今回インタビューは出来ませんでしたが、もう一人、この施設に通う自転車が大好きな子は、一生懸命アンデスの山で練習してパラリンピック競輪のエクアドル代表選手まであと一歩というところまで来ているのです。

Though I couldn't give an interview this time, there is a student who are coming this school and likes riding bicycle has been practicing riding bicycle hard at Andes and he can be only one step away an all-star representative of Ecuador for Paralympics.

☆夢を応援してくれる人と一緒にいること。
* To be with people who support our dreams.

☆夢を強く持って頑張っていると応援してくれる人が必ず現れること。

* When we hang in with having dream strongly, people who support us will come to us.

この二つの順番は卵が先か、ニワトリが先か、の話しのようですが、本当にそうなのです。

Though, the order of these 2 is like chicken-and-egg story, it is true.

そしてたまには夢破れることもあるかも。

壁にあたって涙することもあるかも。

そんな時はこれを唄おう。

And sometimes our dreams might be shattered.
A challenge might bring tears to our eyes.
When we have like that, let's sing this song.

上を向いて歩こう

子供の声４６　コロンビア／ラキラ　撮影日２０１１年１１月１８日（金）

ラキラの名前をキラキラと思い間違えるほど、小さいけど宝石のように輝く町。

陶芸家、今泉卓さんのご協力により子供インタビューが実現し、二名の子供の声をお届けすることが出来ました。

夢は？の質問に、男の子は、システムエンジニア。女の子は歯医者さん、と語ります。

実質人口、２０００人ほどの町の中にはそのような仕事はありません。多分テレビや他の町で知ったり学校で学んだ職業なのでしょう。

地場産業は陶芸。

「二人とも『ろくろ回し』になると、言わなかったね」

と、卓さん、パートナーのユンソンさんがしみじみ語ったことが私の心に残ります。

「職業」と「夢」が繋がっているものに子供はそれを追いかけるのでしょうか。

改めて、卓さんのように、陶芸の素晴らしさを伝承出来る人の存在の希少価値を感じます。

My name is Joshua. I'm 8 years old and Panamanian.

Q1: I want to be a person who can achieve my fixed goal.

Q2: My happiness is laughing.

Q3: Japanese is look like Chinese. There are lots of industries and making lots of cars like Suzuki.

この子は８歳ですよ。８歳。
話し方は８歳らしく子供っぽいのですが、夢は、

「決めた目標を達成する人になること」

・・今まで、聞いたことがない意見を、かましてくれました。(笑)
He is 8 years old. Just 8 years old.
Although the way his talk is like 8 years old, his dream is "To be a person who can achieve my fixed goal.".
He told us that I've never heard like this opinion. *laugh*

これには通訳してくれてた男性も、一瞬、ハッとし、感銘を受けています。
The interpreter's male has also received impression in amazement about this.

パナマの子供、恐るベシです。(笑)

そして、幸せについては、
And about his happiness,

「笑っていること」
”To be laughing."

と話してくれただけあり、このご家族、笑顔が最高に素敵でした。
He told me like that, so his family's smile was very beautiful.

見ず知らずの外国人（私）からの依頼を即、快諾してくれたあたりは、精神的余裕（＝笑顔）の表れなのでしょうか。
Does that they consented the request from a foreign stranger (= me) immediately mean that there is a mental margin (= Smiling face) to them?

なんでしょうね、この可愛いさ。(笑)

なんて言っていますが、この子のひいおじいさんは歴史に残る大統領、レオン・コルテスなのです。
実はその大統領も、その息子＝この子のおじいさんに当たる方も凶弾に倒れている。

しかしもちろん、そんなことをまったく感じさせない純真無垢な声は、温かな安堵の気持ちを抱かせてくれる。

「大人になったら、パティシエになりたい」

夢は、誰に対しても、平等に、無条件に、天から降り注がれているものであることを強く感じた。

My name is Jenny.
I'm 13 years old and from Nicaragua.

Q1. I want to do useful work for my country. I want to get a great job and have stable life.

Q2. My happiness is that the god give us a stable life. I have a family who loves me. And to get better stable life and happiness.

Q3. Japan is very important in all over the world. Japan has the 2nd major economic power in the world and technology is also very much developed. I want to go to Japan some day.

１３歳という年齢を考えても、これほど確立された意見をはっきりと述べられるってスゴイ！！
Even if it takes into consideration the age of 13 years old, it is wonderful that he can express clearly the opinion established this much!!

アフリカを思い出させてくれるほど、彼の声に力を感じるのは国の政情が不安定ということも影響があるのかも、と思います。
I think that it may be influential that that I feel power for his voice also has so unstable the political conditions of a country that reminds me Africa.

夢については「国に役立つこと」と言っていますが、撮影前には、ドクターのような仕事を考えていると言っていました。
Although he said about the dream, "Want to do something to help this country", he has said before shooting that he considered work like a doctor.

ニカラグアはほとんどの人がキリスト教徒ですが、特に彼からは敬虔な想いが感じられます。
Although almost all oepole of Nicaragua are Christians, I feel a pious thought especially from him.

偶然出会ったにしては優秀な子供？であることが日本を語る内容で判ります。
例えば１３歳の時に、私はアメリカやイギリスについてこんな風に語れたかというと疑問です。
いえ、無回答でしたでしょう。(笑)
Although I met him by chance, it turns out that he is an excellent child by the contents which he talks about Japan.
For example, when I was 13 years old, I wonder that I could have talk about America or British like him.
No, I would have had no comments. *laugh*

なんか周りの大人に言わされてる感、一杯ですが(笑) 私にとってこれも貴重な映像となりました。

国境付近に住む子供へのインタビューは初だったからです。

そして、この子供には、笑顔がなかった。

そのことがとても心に残りました。

夢は、「先生になること。」

どのくらいの見聞の中からそれを選択しているのか、はたまた選択という余裕はない中での意見だったのか。

このインタビューはとても感慨深いものがありました。

やっとの思いで出会えたインタビューが出来る子供！＾＾
嬉しいですね〜。

国立博物館から出て来たボーイ＆ガールスカウトのグループでした。

大人になった時の夢を、ダンサー、バレリーナと答えてくれました。
世界中の女の子の一番人気ですね！
ビデオには収録されていませんが、何年も踊りのレッスンをしていると教えてくれました。

やっぱり、「夢は環境から来る」こともあるようですね。

でも、ダンサーになりたかったからレッスンを受けるようになったか、レッスンを受けるようになったから、将来、ダンサーになりたいと思うようになったのか、それはどっちなのでしょうかね？

あと、今までずっとそうなのですが、インタビューをしていると横でどうしても大人が意見を言いたがるんですよね＝(笑)
気持ちは判ります・・。

グァテマラの子供の声、上がりました＾＾
Thank you for your patience! I finally uploaded the video interview from Guatemala ^_^!

マヤ系先住民族が大半のこの国ではどんな声をもらえるか？と興味津々でした。
I was excited to find out what kind of story I could obtain from the country that occupied by an aborigine people of Mayan Civilization.

このご家庭はブログにも触れた通り、親戚に日本でスペイン語の先生をしていたことがある方がいらっしゃったため日本についてよく知っていましたねー。
As I mentioned in my blog earlier, this family was very familiar with Japan. They have a relative who was a Spanish teacher in Japan.

もし、まったくそういった縁がない家庭であればグァテマラの子供は日本のことをなんていったのかも知りたいところです。
I wonder what kind of story I would hear from a Guatemalan family who didn’t know anything about Japan.

最近の傾向として、「津波」「地震」「放射能」という声はほとんど聞かなくなってきたことも感じます。
I noticed that we haven’t heard anything about tsunamis, earthquakes, and radioactivity anymore.

そして先日のラジオでもお話したことですが、「幸せの価値観」については、ここでも「家族」について話してくれました。
I mentioned “value of happiness” in a radio broadcast. The boy talked about his family as his value of happiness.

子供インタビューの数、４０カ国目となった今は、その部分については答えに予想が出来るほどです。
でも、その声を聞く度に、暖かく、平和で、嬉しい気持になるのが楽しみでしかたがありません。
After interviewing children in 40 different countries, I can expect the answer to “value of happiness”. Even if I can expect the answer, it always makes me feel warm, peaceful, and happy every time I hear that from the children.
